    Icon5 Barakoma Released

After the capture of Henderson Field in Guadalcanal, Barakoma Airfield signaled the beginning of the end for Japanese airpower in the South Pacific. It is from Barakoma that the Black Sheep and other Marine and Navy Corsair squadrons escorted bombers to Rabaul and points north and went on their famed "Come and get me" raids on Japanese airfields. DC-3's, P-40's, and all manner of small bombers and fighters were regular visitors and there was even a PV-1 Ventura Squadron equipped as Night Fighters in residence. This airport presents Barakoma as it was during the height of operations and includes many custom models, completely redone shorelines, 30 meter elevation mesh for the entire island, and retro landclass.

It's available at Simviation now and Flightsim.com should have it up this morning sometime.

    Enjoy!

Was just fooling around with some other Vella sceneries but yours is heads above the rest. Fabulous job and great atmosphere. Search on simaviation for some freeware FSX mesh for SE Asia and it will transform the rest of the Solomons.

    Jim,

I am trying to open your AFCAD file in the scenery folder with ADE but it won't decompile for some reason.
Any idea why this might be? Wanted to add some parking and check the taxi ways as the AI I have added only has one a/c parked and no planes landing or doing TNG's which should be happening. Looking to populate some SBDs, C-47's, F4F's etc. Great to start up my A2A Corsair next to under the palm trees!

    Thanks again

    Good job Jim!

Bummer. I made the airport with AFX by Flight 1. I also tried and failed to open it with ADE. AFX just updated itself with the ability to place flattens and I believe it's that part of the .bgl that ADE can not disassemble.

I redid the AFCAD with ADE and it is attached

Thanks for the kind words, all.

    Cheers!

    Jim,

Am getting structure crashes in both taxi directions from parking spot 11. These are all in places near where you have revetments or static a/c. I know I can eliminate the crashes by turning off crash detection - and I will do that if necessary - but is there any simple fix you could do with the scenery instead? I just hate having an airplane bounce back up in the air from what should be considered a crash...

Hi Stan If you have instant scenery, remove the nearest static Corsair. Those are about the only thing I can find on the flight line that doesn't have a "nocrash" operator appended to their models.

That is beyond the call of duty. You are most kind.

    Thanks very much Jim.

I was able to reproduce Stan's crashes and it was not the Corsair. It was a palm tree grouping. I don't regurlarly turn my crash detection on, so I missed this slicker than owl snot. I've redone the vegetation, replaced the Statics with "Nocrash" statics, and still need to rework parking a bit, but I should have an updated version out in a couple of days. I also finished up one more static for the base: a Caterpillar R4 dozer that the Seabees used throughout the area during the war. The International T-18 had way too many curves LOL.

    Outstanding!

I'm working on a complete Solomon scenario for FSX right now, and I must confess, my version is not as good as yours!

Many thanks, Jim. I will be getting the update shortly (haven't checked yet to see if they were posted).
