Thread: ETO crash

    ETO crash

I've played ETO heaps of times over the last few days without a hitch or a problem. I haven't installed anything or touched anything and yet it is crashing to desktop after the initial main screen comes up (ETO + version number). When I select the era and press enter I note that there is an error message but it comes and goes that quick I can't read what it says ... any clues on how to trouble shoot this please?

    One Thing

When I had a similar problem I put one finger on the Print Screen button and pressed it the very second I hit Enter with another finger and it worked. Go into Paint and paste it there. If you are fast enough like I was you will be able to capture the .cmd screen error messege before it closes

I wish I could remember the circumstances to be able to help you more.

    Thumbs up

    . Install CFS 3 normally.

    2. Install the 3.1 Update (CFS3UpdateEng.exe).

    3. Install the 3.1a Update (ACUpdate.exe)

    I highly recommend complete un-install and a complete re-install.

    1. Uninstall CFS3 normally.

    2. Delete the Combat Clight Simulator 3.0 folder from its location in C:\Documents and Settings\User Name (Your Name)\Application Data\Microsoft.

    3. Delete the Combat Flight Simulator 3.0 folder from its location in C:\Documents and Settings\User Name (Your Name)\My Documents.

Note: Despite having the exact same name, these two folders contain entirely different files, and both folders need to be deleted before re-installing CFS3.

If you can't find the Application Data folder in the User Nam (Your Name) folder, you need to do the following:

To find XP Application Data folder, open your Windows XP browser and look for the Tools tab at the top. Click on it and look for Folder Options. Click the View tab and look for “Hidden files and folders”. Make sure “Show hidden files and folders” is checked. While you’re here, also make sure that “Hide extensions for known file types” is unchecked.

ok I'll give that a go. I'd like to know what has caused it though. Especially as I haven't altered anything.

Before re-installing everything, try deleting the uisel.xml in the appData folder first.

ok I'll give that a go first. I still can't get the bdp zapper to run either, would that be a problem as well?

    system:
    Gigabyte X-58 mobo
    Core i7 920 DO 2.61 @ 4 ghz
    6 gig ram

    windows 7 pro 64 bit
    kaspersky 2010 anti virus

hey hey hey ... it worked I deleted that file and ETO started up straight away ..... now ... what caused that problem? I also had an error come up stating that the "model Ai-DO-217-E5-6NNP is already in use" .... I haven't seen this before. I assume it's an aircraft. do I delete it from the aircraft folder? The only additional aircraft I have installed are from Beau's site and the only other file I have installed is the JU-88 cockpit ... that's it ....
Glad it's working now though. Thanks for the help

Glad it helped. Guess it saved a lot of time/nerves!

CFS3 stores the last selects you made in the uisel.xml (like aircraft/airfield etc.) so next time you fire up CFS3 you have the same selects again. If you changed/deleted etc. an aircraft listed in the uisel, the game crashes on startup when trying to load an inexistent/changed aircraft. Happened to me several times. So my first step when encountering problems on startup, ist to delete that file.

I made a copy of a working uisel in my CFS3 (or ETO) root folder, so I don't have to set my favourite settings everytime I have to delete the uisel. But before copying this over, be really sure it WORKS, because that will be the uisel to be rebuilt next time you delete the one in the AppData folder.

    Cheers

Thanks again for your help. One more question for you though. Does that file also contain the config for the joystick?

  10. #10
no, this is stored in the ???.xca, where ??? means the name of the profile you gave in the ingame controls menu when you saved your joystick settings.

But the uisel defines witch profile to load and the realism settings.

So could I configure one version of CFS3 (say my stock game) and set all my game controls and then copy that file to all version of the game ie: PTO, MAW, ETO etc etc ... does that make sense?

    CFS3 crash/lockup

    @Italflyer
you seem to be very knowledgeable. her is my problem:
My MS CFS3 regularly (10-20 minutes) locks up in the middle of a flight and after sending the error report to MS it CDT's. I thought it was graphics horse power, but I just installed a nvidia GT9500 with 1 Gb and it still crashes. I have an AMD Dual Core with 2 Gb.
The Application Event Viewer shows "Fault address 0x00119a27" most of the time. Sometimes "Fault address 001e7015 or 00100d4c". I have re-installed CFS3 3.1 and 3.1a several times, it still locks up. I cannot find any explanation for those fault codes at the MS site. Can anyone help me with a suggestion? I have ETO also on the machine, both with 'Multi CFS". ETO also locks up. It sort of spoils the fun to get shot by the system instead of by the enemy
I installed a pure stock CFS3 with 3.1 and 3.1a and nothing else. It stayed up for approx 1 hour and then locked up.
I have now OFF, ETO, CFS3 with lots of addons and a clean Stock CFS3 on my machine.
They all lock up in the same way and I do alot of rebooting.Maybe too much? can you suggest something?
    thaks

Galand. Take a look in the Nvidia website under forum. There are posts there concerning probelms with the Nvidia GT9500 1Gb. You could have your answer there.

    Hi Galand

Did this happen also before you installed the new graphic-card? Could also be a power issue as the new card might cansume more power...

    otherwise:
overheating / driver incompatibilies / memory issue

I remember on my old rig, I installed a network card. Whenever I switched on my router, the computer rebooted; sometimes after 10 minutes, sometimes after an hour and more. In the end I put in a new soundard and all my problems have gone....

So try to find out when the mess started. What did you change since then. Usually reinstalling CFS3 doesn't solve problems. (unless you really messed up your CFS3 install, of course)
