    Addon Scenery CTD

I recently download and installed the Northwest Coast Guard Stations (cgas1_js2.zip) from John Stinstrom. I really like his work, and was looking forward to a few more addon airports in the PNW.

Well, it seems I've encountered an unusaal problem. Whenever I setup a flight from either of the three new airports, I get a CTD with no warning. Everything installed fine including the AI aircraft. The airports load without a problem. By the time I startup my aircraft, get clearance to takeoff, and taxi to the runway -- FS9 shuts down.

My guess is that there is likely a common texture file that disagrees with my video card or something. Any ideas on what might be causing this? I'd sure like to keep these new airports.

    Thanks

WH, That's what happened to me on his 1st release. John discovered he had left out textures that go to ...\Flight Simulator 9\Scenery\World\texture.
This 2nd release, the one you have, has a folder named scenery, then inside that, "world', and inside that, "texture". Those textures have to go to there or there is a crash. (don't overwrite files you may already have)

If you've already done that, then I'm not sure... unless the landclass files contained within the main scenery folder are causing a leak on your system.

    Also,

If you have two addons of the same airport name, like KMKG, KMKG.. That will crash as soon as it loads up on your screen. You can fly towards the are, from out of range, but when you come up on it, 'crash'......

That seems to be what's happening. I've relocated the landclass files to a dedicated addon scenery folder, and it seems to have helped. I can now approach and land, but after awhile the CTD returns.

Hows does one determine if a landclass file (or any other scenery file for that matter) is causing a leak on my system, and how do you measure it?

I don't know the answer to that one. I wouldn't mind knowing the answer. LOL!!

BTW, I created a new folder for the landclass and installed as any other scenery. Besides the 3 bgl's with the name "landclass" in them, I also put in the 3 with ***_VTPP.BGL
I think the vtpp bgl's are landclass related, too.
    Anyway, it works for me.

    Thanks, Brent.

I'll have to try your setup and see how that works. I've moved the landclass to a dedicated folder, but not the ***_VTPP.BGL.

It seems that Port Angeles is the one field that's giving me the most fits. The CTD are almost random.

    Thanks, again.

Landclass files should never be in the same folder as the actual scenery. They need to be in a seperate scenery folder, and should be added to the scenery library first, then the actual scenery folder, that way the scenery is above the landclass in the scenery library. The sim has to draw the landclass first, then draw the scenery on top of it.

How can one identify landclass files if there is no mention of it in scenery's readme files or bgl filenames?

Hey, Brent. Just wanted you to know that everything works like a charm with your setup.

Pho17, your question is similar to mine. I read where some scenery designers will name their files to make it easier to identiy which ones are for landclass, but I couldn't figure it out with the Northwest CGAS scenery. So, I guess the real answer is to ask here at SOH and hope that someone else has figured it out.
