Thread: FSX SDK....

    FSX SDK....

They've put men on the moon, explored the deepest of underwater caves, created inconceivably massive structures, and observed the tiniest building blocks of our creation.

I challenge ANY of those people to correctly install the FSD SDK.

Seriously, is this some kind of test to ensure that only mensa grand leaders can make alterations in FSX?

I need the SDK installed to use SBuilderX (that's right, isn't it?) and for the life of me I have no idea what I'm doing. I've searched online for tutorials but they all seem aimed at different installations of FSX etc, plus even those at the most basic level confuse me.

I have FSX gold edition, and just installed it all (deluxe and acceleration) in one big lump. No messing about.

Based on this site here: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/inde...tallation_(FSX)

    Do I just have to follow these instructions;

    FSX Acceleration Pack users

To install the SDK for FSX Acceleration Pack:

    1. Insert your Acceleration Pack DVD
    2. Open the folder called SDK
    3. First install the RTM SDK and SDK SP1A (see instructions above, SDK SP1A is included on the disk for your convenience)
    4. Install sdk.msi from your disk to install the SDK for the Acceleration Pack
And non of the others? I can ignore the ones pertaining to SP1/2 and ignore the bit about the RTM (even though I do have deluxe, but acceleration as well)?

As far as I'm aware I've got the service packs installed, although I don't know for sure because like I said, installation just involved clicking 'yes' 10 times then letting it do its thing.

Thank you in advance. Hopefully soon I will be part of the exclusive club of those with working SDK's.

With the Deluxe version of FSX you need to download and install the SP1A and SP2 for the FSX SDK, these are not the same as FSX SP1 and SP2. They are two seperate entities. The links for those downloads are slightly above where the webpage takes you.

It's a maddening process, but you have to install the SDKs in order, one after the other, for SP1, SP2, and Acceleration. Doing it out of order or not installing them all will call a halt to the process. For some reason, the SDK data is sewn up tighter than Ft. Knox.

Oh what a misery that was. Installing the SDK. Managed to stuff it up so bad I had to reinstall FSX.

  5. #5
It can be done. It just takes a few a lot of time and patience.
As does the work you install it for. I think I've done it twice
now, once during FSX beta testing and once on a new hard drive.

Although I work in the space industry, I haven't put any men on the moon. A dive to the bottom of our local swimmingpool was about the deepest dive I made. And I have not created any "inconceivably massive structures". Nevertheless I thought the installation of SDK was arather straight forward as long as you do it in the right sequence (could be luck as well) .

Actually most men I know, who are capable to put something on the moon or even further, would get lost in their own pocket. So don't ask them to do something simple, as clicking a few executable files in the right sequence. Most probably they would make a bigger mess of it than you can imagine .

    Good luck!

One quick question. I've downloaded and installed the SDK RTM without problems. I'lll shortly be installing SP1.

    Regarding SP2 and acceleration, it says this;

    FSX SP2 users

For standalone SP2 users only ! (All Acceleration Pack users please see instructions below at FSX Acceleration Pack Users).
To install the SDK for FSX SP2:

    1. Download FSX SDK SP2
    2. First install the RTM SDK and SDK SP1A (see instructions above)
    3. Install the FSX SDK SP2 that you downloaded

    [edit] FSX Acceleration Pack users

To install the SDK for FSX Acceleration Pack:

    1. Insert your Acceleration Pack DVD
    2. Open the folder called SDK
    3. First install the RTM SDK and SDK SP1A (see instructions above, SDK SP1A is included on the disk for your convenience)
    4. Install sdk.msi from your disk to install the SDK for the Acceleration Pack
Paying specific attention to the bit in red, can I just clarify that I do not need to download the SP2, instead I just download the SP2/Acceleration option.

    Thank you.

if you have acceleration theres no need to download the SP2 patch, just install the acceleration sdk, as that includes SP2 but adds some extras as well (mainly carrier stuff)

    Cheers.

    All good so far.

If my computer does this without hassle I'm going to treat it to a defrag. Right after I've made the best scenery the world has ever seen, of course.

@ the "get lost in their own pocket"

I have a good friend who is a high powered PhD Physicist. He works for one of the aerospace firms and although he has never been involved with putting a man on the moon, he HAS helped put satellites up around the earth.

He cannot get lost. That is because he doesn't go anywhere. Before going anywhere, he has to consult 14 different maps and charts, 3 GPS units, and his satellite powered atomic watch. He will then look at the weather report on several different outlets and prepare for a possible blizzard in July.

By then, he has either forgotten where he was going or the charts and maps are now out of date and he has to start over again.

Now, we take you back to your regular scheduled thread.
    John

    Hi Folks

    TheOptimist -
    Would appreciate your assistance please,
or that of any other Acceleration disk owner.

The MS beta testers were never issued with Acceleration disks,
and their downloads didn't include the older SP1A SDK or containing subfolder.

The FSDeveloper Wiki SDK article was recently 'rationalised'
and some instructions could still have been clearer.

I've now modified the article to read -
    2.1.4 FSX Acceleration Pack users

To install the SDK for FSX Acceleration Pack:

    1. First install the RTM SDK from FSX Deluxe Edition disk 1, (see FSX RTM users instructions above).
    2. Insert your Acceleration Pack DVD.
    3. Browse to the subfolder called SDK\?SUBFOLDERNAME?\ (what's the correct folder name).
    4. Install the SDK SP1A from there using that sdk.msi (what's the correct filename, filedate and filesize ?).
    5. Browse to the folder called SDK\
    6. Install the Acceleration Pack SDK using that sdk.msi, (same name, dated 06/10/2007, size 216,929KB).
    To complete those instructions
I need to know the correct SUBFOLDERNAME ?
Filesize and date would also be appreciated.

Does that version now make things any clearer ?

Yup.. getting it installed is the easy part.. the documentation is just bizarre.

It's like they started with a list of what they'd WANT from the SDK.. then shuffled and mixed topics into no sensible order.. and then used THAT as a guidline to put the SDK together.. then shuffled the documentation again, for good measure.. and published it.. :isadizzy:

    Paul,

Here are two screen shots of my FSX Gold Acceleration Disk, the subfolder name you are requesting is simply SP1A. The filesize of the SP1A SDK update is 161 MB or 165,569 KB, the date is 26 September 2007 for the "Gold" Acceleration Disk

    Scott -
    Cheers for your screenie,
    much appreciated.

    Could you, or anyone, please
also give me the filename, filesize, and filedate
of the content in that SP1a folder ? (no screenie required).

    EDIT -
    Thanks for your second screenie.
Must have been uploading whilst I'd posted.

The FSDeveloper - Wiki - SDK Installation (FSX) article

I have FSX Deluxe and Acceleration and can find the SDK and service packs on the disks. But when trying to installed SDK the disk just spins and spins. DVD drive seems to be working otherwise. The program I want to use involves a lengthy learning curve and I haven't even been able to install the required SDK software yet. I'll report back in a year or so, it looks like.

The Prepar3d v1.x SDK is 100% compatible with FSX Acceleration objects and is freely downloadable from Lockheed Martin. One install file.
