    Question CF3 Mission Builder

    Hi all,

Is there a user guide on how to use the CF3 mission builder? I would like to have a crack at it but with no help guide from Microsoft dose make things harder.

    Hey Frog,

I do not know of one but the best way to learn is to look at existing missions and learn from reverse engineering. That is how I learned, it is slow but eventually you will get the hang of it. Building good missions is very time consuming work and after each minor change the mission must be reflown and reflown to get everything right. It can take days and several dozens times of flying a mission before it is right but it is very rewarding and you get a great sense of accomplishment when you are done.

As always any time you have a question on MB just open a thread here on SOH with a specific question and you will get the help you need.

    Good luck,

    O-1

Way, way, way back someone uploaded a 30 page tutorial on the CFS3 MB. It is somewhat basic but is very good if you've never had any experience with it. I'll look through my CD's and see if I still have it. I may have lost it in a HD crash awhile back but if I have it I'll either send it to you or upload it. I have it printed out but there wasn't anyones name on any of the sheets so not sure who's it is. I'll let you know if I have it.

Found it. It's not from an upload but a short Tutorial that comes with the MB. After you install the mission builder look for this path.

    CFS3/MB Folder/Help Folder/helppage HTML Document

After opening it, on the left you show have several option. The last being "Tutorial: Calais Cleanup"

    Hope this helps you.

    Question

Speaking bout mission builders, I went to DPC's Korea site but it's in a another format. I can't locate that mission builder that once was there. Any clues to where is now?

    Hey ther Frog 1

O-1 is a master @ MB. Download one of his Missions then open it with say Notepad. Look and see the structure of the files. One thing that is a huge pain is that CFS3 always puts the altitude in for you. You must edit it to what you want, each time you fly and check the Mission.

Hint: Put your Aircraft where you think you want the Mission to be based, probably near a Frontline. If not, yo can add you own Frontline. Put in about 6 waypoints in a zigzag pattern across each side of the Front. Next, save the Mission. Go to your PC, File Explorer etc, find your mission in CFS 3 "what if" ( where you saved it), and adjust the altitude. Save, then get a pilot and test fly it. Put you Z key on to note for recording your time, ( mission starts), length, altitude, waypoints, etc. Use pause a lot to freeze it and note the Lat and Long of each place where you may put a ground unit. Aircraft can be the first, or last you add. Only Edit a formation or ground unit, if you decide it must survive or be destroyed.

I average about 25 hours to build a mission. Keep your first ones short and action should start < 7 minutes. Not too many objectives either. Fill in all the briefing stuff, date, weather ( can Dl & copy it forom your "weather" folder, and save it. Then go and edit it. IF you make a mistake editing it, you will still have a virgin copy to re edit.

    Good Luck.

    No go I'm afraid.

It opens my WMP and a error message comes up..........
The selected file has an extension (htm) that is not recognized by Windows Media Player.

    Any advice would be helpful.

Try right clicking the HTML doc and select "Open with" option and then clicking "Internet Explorer". Or try clicking properties and where it says "opens with" click change and select "Internet Explorer" and save.

I got the same error you did when I changed what program to open it up so maybe this will work for you.

Cool. It should be helpful if you've never done any mission building. The only way I was able to print it out was a page at a time. Alot easier to read then bouncing back and forth to the mission builder.
