    that's understandable. i mean,
after all, it is a hobby, isn't it?
i find that if i step away for a while,
    things usually clear up.

i can see how dealing with air files
can make one a little crazy.
my experience with them is limited,
but i find that i'm avoiding messing with them.

    for example, i'm having trouble
    getting the spoiler to work
    on certain air files.
    i can see the triggers
    and have made the changes.
    no joy.
i even looked at one from an ac
that has a spoiler, noted the settings,
transposed them to the other air file,
    still no joy.
    it doesn't make sense,
unless, it's one of those unknown settings.

not fun, not fun at all.

    anyway, have fun and share
what you want, when you can.
    you know we will always
    appreciate what we get.

The Spoiler ANGLE is the not so obvious part but I believe it is the most important part. If it is zero, the Spoilers don't work. If it is non-zero, the Spoilers work. I don't think the "Spoiler Available" value has any effect at all. I will go back to my notes and check to confirm, but this is what I remember at the moment.

At the moment I am going in LOTS of different directions and that is not productive either, but it IS educational.

Did you know that the 12.7 mm MG on the Ki-61 used explosive ammunition for extra power? Its ammunition was nearly identical otherwise to the 12.7 mm MG that I already put into the Macchi C205. This caliber was dimensionally identical to the Vickers .50 caliber MG that was never adopted by the British. The Japanese ammunition also had a tendency to explode just past the gun's muzzle which caused really bad effects on aircraft with cowl mounted guns such as the Ki-43 Hayabusa series. I don't suppose it did anything serious on the Ki-61 which had these guns mounted in the wings. The weight of a single round and link is 3.63 ounces at least on the Italian gun which I will also be using for the Japanese gun.

    Still having fun!

Last night I was revisiting this project and trying to figure out how much work it would take to bring it to release quality. It needs the SCASM Virtual Cockpit but most of it is already done with the Birdcage Corsair's release.

    NYC Vacation

The standard F4U-1A Corsair got released several weeks back. No big surprise. There are some things that still need fixed, but they will happen in time. I thought there was more continuity in this thread about the recent Corsair but I can't seem to find it right now.

I have been on vacation in NYC with my family this week. Internet is very intermittent and not fast. This week is my kids' Spring Break. We haven't been spending all that much time in the apartment and when we do, my Internet access is not high on the list of priorities.

sorry for taking that line out of context,
but it kinda made me chuckle.
to me, this thread has always been incongruous.
not that it's a bad thing...
it seems to be a starting off place
for subjects that move to other threads
where they are explored in greater detail.

i thought the corsair discussion moved on to
    http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...d-for-Research
although, imo, the continuity of that thread,
and others, has been lost due the removal of attachments.
apparently, they disappeared after a site "upgrade",
or something like that, a week or so ago.
the last i heard was last saturday.
    it was being looked into.

    on the bright side,
    looking to the right,
i see a lot more smilies

Haven't heard from him in a while: PJ Dunbar.

There are some issues I see though:

The Pilot looks like the CFS stock pilot and I like mine better.
The Colour lines don't follow through the Wing Fillet.
The Colour scheme is that of a Hawk 81 but the model is a Hawk 87.

The Headrest isn't textured but that is my fault since I didn't texture that part on my first release of this plane.

It sure is pretty, isn't it?

yes, Pol is definitely a true artist and friend.
    ...miss that guy.

    i've got a black le'homme p-51
that he did for me long ago.

also, his repaints of the cfs stockers
    are all way above par.
out of all the fw190 repaints i've seen,
his is the one i use exclusively.

This thread does tend to ramble quite a lot.

The original purpose of this thread as I saw it was to discuss those aircraft of significance in history that had never been developed for Combat Flight Simulator. CFS started as a European Theater of Operations kind of thing but MTO and PTO subjects have received attention as well. Some famous aircraft have never been developed. Others have been developed but not done to the standard they deserve.

At the moment, I have been looking at a few different subjects: The N1K2-J Shiden-KAI which seems to have come in more variations than I expected. The J2M Raiden which has had only one strangely scaled example done. The Yak-1 had had a payware example done which doesn't look bad but has some odd proportions at least in the Freeware AI version that is available.

I can think of LOTS more fairly famous aircraft that have never been done properly for CFS, but as I commented on earlier, I tend to go after subjects that I would like to own or fly, so added to this list are the Me 109G/K, P-38J Lightning and the P-6E Hawk.

Its great to get back on track as regards the thread of this blog, it's so long ago that we all listed our own personal desires. Can we relist what each of us would like to appear. My own is a merlin Halifax but I do believe that almost an entire era is missing bar a handful of examples. I am refering to between WW1 and WW2. What say you?

  14. #524
    Hello Womble55,

Glad to see you are back.

The Halifax was mentioned in the first message of this thread. I don't really know the significance of the Merlin version of he Halifax though. I have done almost no research on that plane. I presume that the typical Bristol Hercules was an alternate engine?

Agreed, between the wars planes are horribly neglected.

Womble probably knows more about it than I do but I think most Merlin engines went to power Lancasters. A quick look through the web shows that the original Halifaxs had Merlins - these were beefed up to develop more power but they switched to Hercules engines. Later in the War they went back to Merlins, probably supply had caught up with demand.
