    DC-4??? I thought those had 4 engines!??

Looks more like a Convair 340/580.

OBIO, may I quote from the MAAM C-47 checklist?

CAUTION: Over-priming can cause hydraulic lock of lower cylinders.
    *Magnetos - BOTH
*Starter Switch - ENGAGE (for 8 blades)
    *Vibrator Switch - ENGAGE
*Mixture - AUTO-RICH (when engine starts)
[FS: Mixture was moved to FULL RICH when fuel booster pump was turned on.]
NOTE: If engine stalls, mixture is moved back to IDLE-CUTOFF, while continuing to crank engine. Restart is then attempted using the above procedures.
CAUTION: If engine backfire ignites excess fuel, open throttle wide and keep engine turning over with starter. This will cause fire to be drawn into the combustion chamber of the cylinder and out through the exhaust.
    *Oil Pressure - CHECKED
    *Throttles - 1000 to 1200 RPM
CAUTION: Avoid prolonged idling below 800 RPM
    Hope this helps... :d

    Cheers,
    Markus.

Maybe it was just an "ilyushin"? Sorry, I couldn't resist.

...The Russkies were known to steal a good idea when given the chance. Such as the impounding of a B-29 bomber during WWII which became the TU-4 for the Soviets.

Yes, the Russkies copied the B-29 right down to the flaws. It was some years before they made 'improvements' but I can't help but wonder if they stole those, too.

But maybe a twin radial propliner must look this way?

I would have to look twice to distinguish a Convair 240/340/440 from a Martin 2-0-2/4-0-4...

You're pretty much correct, Wild Bill. There are still quite a few IL-14's flying in the Third World and I can tell you from overhead photography they are hard to distinguish from Convairs except the Ilyushin's fuselage is kinda chubby compared to a Convair. But I still gotta believe the vertical stabilizer on the IL-14 was copied from the C-47/DC-3. Maybe it was Friday afternoon and the Ilyushin designers decided screw it, let's go to Happy Hour. :d

And today trying to contact the File library (link above) brought an error message:

    Something broke...
Regrettably, a database error has occurred. We won't be able to do what you've asked right now.
Please contact the Library Staff, telling them exactly what you did to cause this error.

    Anyone else got the same?

    Pekka

Yes I keep getting that error message. It makes me feel like I was the one that broke it when all I did was click on a link.

Jens, Day before yeaterday, I loaded an IL-14 with Cuban cigars, rum and fresh fruit, then flew it from Matrii International to Cozumel, Mexico, to supply the American tourists.

Your plane was simply a dream to fly.

    Thank you.

Add another thumbs up here for both the -12 and the -14!!!!

EDIT: A work in progress. (Some or most gauges will be replaced with home-spun versions eventually.)

Hi aeronca1, 2D panels are on their way out; if you buy a new PC it will have a widescreen monitor that makes 2D panels look stretched and really bad.

Why don't you use the Virtual Cockpit, it is much better anyway. If you are one of those who hate VC's, give it a try on the IL-14 - it is better than the 2D version, and much more interesting .

    Best regards

    Jens B Kristensen

Hi Jens, yes, you have me pegged! I do hate VC's. I fly mostly big tubeliners, and the VC's are a pain in the patoot for me. They give me a sense of "the unreal" on a computer screen, not at all like the real thing, not even close for me. 2D's forever for me I'm afraid. For my personal system, I redesign most 2D panels on my fav a/c to look right on the widescreens.

Thank you for all your contributions to the FS world! My FS install is chock a block full of your work. :ernae:
