I'm with EMatheson - anything by Bill Lyons, with the addition of any scenery by Leon Louis to fly it. Golden Hawaii is well worth having, too.
Rats - why won't anything work properly first time?
I like the lighter stuff , so:-

Thank you!!!

Got another 'oldie but goodie', a scenery file this time,
freeware from Richard 'Georender' Goldstein,an fs2002 scenery that nonetheless works in fs2004,
at Avsim (and maybe a few other places)
Spotted Bear USFS (8U4)
File Description:
Phototextured rendering of a US Forestry Service airstrip deep in the mountains of Western Montana. Includes ground detail and shadow effects, as well as detail and reflection on the water. Water landing possible. Plenty of choices for flying fun with a curved grass strip surrounded by tall trees and a meandering river. Beware of puddles on the runway!

(Dave Eckerts' Stearman Kaydet is a good match)
Where can I get that Twin Bonanza?!
Take my love, take my land / Take me where I cannot stand, I don't care, I'm still free / You can't take the sky from me.
Take me out to the black / Tell 'em I ain't comin' back.
Burn the land and boil the sea / You can't take the sky from me...

Captain Wild Bill Kelso: War nerves? Who said war nerves?
The Patron: I heard it on that radio there.
[Kelso shoots the radio]
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: Radio's wrong.
Some Soviet/Russian heavies! In my opinion, some of the most intensive freeware tubeliners available. Equivalent or better than payware.

Here's another FS2002 beauty who's survived the test of time. The Robin 400 by (once again) Yannick Lavigne, Fred Banting, Rob Young...and converted for use in FS2004 by Eric Dantes. Wonderfully modelled, textured, and flys great. Check out the texturing on the pilot. Amazing! Can be downloaded from Flightsim.com. Files needed are dr400v1.zip and dr400_04.zip.

Sorry if these are too obvious, a sample from my overstuffed hard drive - but then they're all too good to push into the hangar, amongst the light stuff how about the Golden Age Taylor Cub at

Gunter Graemer's Me108 and his Cirrus SR20 shouldn't be missed....if you can find a download site with them - sorry I got them from his site but I think he closed it down, but of course I could be wrong!

The Piel Emeraude at http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=94795
The Aero Heaven Hurricane is vastly better than a payware version out there, but then so is Robert Sanderson's - both can be found at flightsim.
then up the pace with the Saab Draken which I thought was something like ....bookmark.se - but I can't find it at present
or for airliners naturally the FSDZ Constellation at

and any airliner by Manfred Jahn and also Jens Kristensen who has covered everything from early Vickers Vimy biplanes through to the Comet 1, and they all fly well.
Kirk Olsson did a lovely F-16 family, and Mirages and the F-86 for whistling round the valleys in.
Milton's Spartan is brilliant but that is covered above and so is Dave Eckert's Stearman.
