Thread: Freeware Gems

    Nice pics Charl.

Still havent tried the Islander (couldnt be bothered trying to put it all together and no VC (?)) and the Bleriot but had many flights in the Jungmann (best biplane in FS9 IMO payware or freeware) and the wonderful Mustang. Mr Carter is now making a Harvard which I am looking forward to but I think its FSX only. The French Fielser is new to me ...is it on Flightsim.com?

Having tried just about every water texture upgrade available I've found that the freeware gem "OceanFX 2" (ofx20sa.zip) by Johan de Vries (utilizing Ed Truthan's freeware oceansfx.zip & oceanstx.zip) finally renders water as best as FS9 can display. Good riddance cartoon blue.

Wozza (Warwick Carter) has a very nice FS9 Texan/Harvard package....very nice. Even has a float plane version of the Texan which is a blast. Flightsim.com is were you can find them for sure.

    Hey Ob,

The Islanders and Trilander have great VCs.

Two more freeware gems for the list: Both by the late Greg Pepper

    Beech Super G 18

    Beech Bonanza A-35

I am sure there are other gems by Greg that I have not discovered. Both of these planes could use some paint jobs (they are both on my list of projects). The Super G is a more elegantly appointed twin engine (RADIALS!) that will look superb in some regional airline/commuter skins. The Bonanza A-25 is a slick little hot rod of a plane with no vertical or horizontal tail surfaces...instead it has two tail surfaces that are angled someplace between horizontal and vertical that act as elevators and rudder...very neat looking.

Has anyone mentioned the Just Flight Demo's? Tiger Moth, Spitfire, others? (P38 and maybe Mossie?) I think most are fully functioning single planes from the larger packs.

  10. #235
The only two that are listed as "fully functioning" are the Spitfire and the Lightning. For me, the Spitfire is so-so, but the Lightning is a work of art! And since I don't need to buy a gazillion variants, the demo is all I need!

ét Voila, a permanent reference for future newbies?

BTW, AWESOME thread, as relatively recent CFS2 convert, shows me some I missed, many thanks.

in short, this thread is fantastic!
    although, it's overwhelming....
    I am over amped. :isadizzy:
    organizing into separate threads,
    like Jamie suggested,
would sure help the brain cells.

personally, I'm looking mostly for Scenery and terrain upgrades,
    like Holger Sandmann's work
then Utilities and maybe some must have gauges.

Tom, this is a daunting task,
    many thanks for the effort.

The problem with threads like these is that they are never complete.

When I'm correct; Rick Piper's Provost hasn't been mentioned yet!

    Ain't that the truth!

Milo - at the very least, whatever I do with it, it will be divided between scenery, aircraft, and utilities.

    Hi,
The Bloch152 has been marked up, but has the Bloch MB220? A nice panel and VC also.

Has this one been mentioned already?

Long Island Classic's Aeronca L16 by Kevin Lechmanski (Long Island Classics). The file (licl16a1.zip) is available at Avsim.
While you are there just do a search on "Lechmanski" and you will find ou all his models are real gems!

All of the Long Island Classic Aerona 7AC variants are gems. Will have to check out what is available under "Lechmanski".

One little bugger you do not often see can be downloaded here:
    http://cr1-software.com/addons/bell-p39-promo/

It is an old Simtech Flight Design model for FS2004; CR1 is now developing a new FSX version. Nice detail are the animated car style cockpit doors.
Much to my surprise the old CFS2 gauges do work in FSX :isadizzy:

Anyone know how, or where to get the Airhead Virtual Works Decathlon? Looks superb, though, when I try to download the file, it always fails.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks fellas :ernae:
