387. Is this a trick question? I thought sloops were renamed corvettes.

382. A magazine is where the ship's ammunition is held. I'm not sure whether that would be gunpowder or shells, though.

lieutenant) is from 1567; naval sense of "officer who commands a

large amount "enough to make breeches for a dutchman"

When the current one either dies or resigns.
