    Martin Mars

    Hello All,

As it turns out, a Coulson Martin Mars water bomber will be stationed on a lake 30 minutes south of my home for about 5 months. I am intrigued. Is the AlphaSim model good? Are there other models? I hope to get some photos of the real thing. Unfortunately, to see it in action will mean the pyros are out doing there thing. That is typical in So Cal.

    Hi Dandog,

I take it she is going to be at Lake Elsinore again ?? I was there the last time she was called down to help was lucky enough to catch her and her very friendly crew on a IFR day where she could not fly.

With the help of a very cute blonde I was able to get a boat ride over with Captain John and he gave us a tour of the massive airplane.
In a word.....amazing. The front panel however would not overtax even a C-150 driver. Unlike the FE station....that does need some special training.

There was a freeware version of the Martin Mars made by one of the guys in my VA ...but I don't know if he ever uploaded it anywhere for general release.

A while back I found an AI Mars by Alpha as part of a Sproat Lake scenery. I patched over another air file and installer to make it flyable but never gave it the once over to finalize it. Probably won't show animated surfaces but looked fun to fly. If anyone is interested I'll fix it up a bit and people can try it out.

    I'd be interested.

I did pretty much what you've done; I gave it a flyable air file and aliased sounds and a panel, but never found the time to check it out and finish the job. As things are now, I can't guess when I might find the time to get back to it.

    Caroline Mars

When I was eight months old, my father's duty station was changed from NAS Barbers Point, Honolulu, Hawaii to Washington, DC. Our family (parents and three kids) made the crossing to California on the Caroline Mars. The life jacket for a dependent infant was four times bigger than the dependent infant, or so my mother said!

Yup, Lake Elsinore it is!!! Luckily, work sends me down that way every 7 to 10 days. I doubt I will enjoy the same luck as tour of the ship. But, I'll take what I can get.

I just pulled it out and it flopped on its back when it hit the water, but she looks great and there are all the animations. I'll fix up the CFG so it'll float and fly nice.

Well it's getting there. The fourth air file was the best, from a Sikorsky V44. Almost done with making it float right, and I've been doing the flight dynamics along the way. It's a beast.

The Alphasim Mars is great! It's one of my favorites. It looks even better in FSX.
