After the noise of the jets at Volkel it was time for a bit of relaxation at Lelystad where the Aviodorme hosted an event to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the MacRobertson air race. The museum advertised in various international magazines, including the Aeroplane and some foreign aircraft did show up, mostly British. The museum had cleaned out its storage as well, and we got to see a few different items on display, like this Avro/Cierva C-30A Autogiro:



Two aircraf models that participated in the MacRobertson came over from England: This Miles Hawk:



And this De Havilland Puss Moth:





Can you imagine flying from London to Melbourne in one of these?

Interesting aircraft from Holland, the Lambach HL.II replica, built and owned by the University of Delft:



This Fokker 'Spin' (Spider) is a replica, but it was built in 1936 by Fokker crew to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the factory, so it is a real Fokker. This aircraft can still fly.



Also from the UK, this DH Gypsy Moth:

A short visit to the inside exposition to escape the heat and burning sun outside for a bit. Not much new, but I did find this Fokker S.12 prototype. Basically the same as the S.11 trainer, but with a nosewheel and different mains. Built for the Brazilians.



Back outside, and Tom Kart van der Meulen fires up his P-51D Mustang for a few fly-bys:



Outside for the first time since the museum opened I think, the Fokker F.II replica. Note how the sun shines through the ailerons:



'Sybille' is the nameof this beautiful DH Dragon Rapide that was supposed to do a few passenger flights, but a problem with the right engine prohibited that. They did try two engine tests, but didn't fly.





More DH, this Tiger Moth in the colours of the Rijksluchtvaartschool' (Aviation school):



The Old Crow, a Boeing Stearman N2S-3. The owner (A KLM 777 pilot) travels to airshows with this Stearman and entertains the crowd with his great storytelling skills.

Catalina PH-PBY coming back in after a 'splash and dash' on the Ysselmeer with some paying passengers:



In the afternoon the three aircraft models that participated in the MacRobertson left the field for a while and taxied back in to recreate the home coming of the Uiver in 1934. The Aviodrome has a replica of the 1928 Schiphol terminal building (Once built for the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam but bombed by the Germans in 1940) and of course a replica of the DC-2 Uiver.:





With the uiver came an entirecrew of pilots and passengers, all in contemporary outfits:



The 'Early birds foundation' also located at Lelystad airport brought their flyable (Hasn't flown yet) replica of a Fokker D.VII:

Beautiful shots Ferry. You must have a whizz-bang camera.

Nah, just a relatively cheap and simple Canon 400D/Rebel XTi dSLR with a decent lens combo. The trick is to take a $*#!load of photos from every possible angle; chances are you will have at least a few good shots. A good condition to run around the field all day to get to a good camera position also helps.

SOLO. Great guy, that Melrose, and only 21 when he did it. But first he had to solo to England, to the start of the Race, and broke the record for the fastest flight between Australia and England doing so.

I'm glad a Puss Moth is being modelled by Milton for FS9.

Rob, did you get to fly in the Rapide...?

On Sunday it didn't fly due to engine problems but anyone that did buy a ticket will get another chance on a later date.
