Thread: The Ongoing Mystery Aircraft Thread Part Deux.

    I will bite.

Here is mystery #199. Interesting beaching gear eh?

  2. #3052
'Tis a Super Stranraer (re-engined with Cyclones by the Canadians)

    Carry on, chaps.........

  3. #3053
Piece of cake for the floatmaster.

Looks like another open board. Fire at will...

  4. #3054
I'll bite - I'll be out of town until Sat. night so if this is identified - carry on!

  5. #3055
And he dives off for a weekend of hedonism leaving us with the grottiest possible picture of a low-wing two-seat open cockpit trainer.

Can't be many of those around, then..................

  6. #3056
Has a German feel. Maybe 1933-34ish?

Better go find my white flag just in case...

  7. #3057
Greetings from Purdue University - well Moses, slightly earlier than 32 (not 100% sure though). Geography is very close as well. You guys spend another day digging - if you're stumped I'll post the answer tomorrow evening. I admit there isn't much that distinguishes this bird from any of 1000 others.

  8. #3058
Well, I'm going to assume we're either stumped or just not interested enough in this genre. Like I said these types were a dime a dozen back in the 30's. Our mystery was the St. Hubert 135.BO

Okay, I get the feeling we need something different. This one is from a very well known manufacturer - I believe it's the only known photograph of it though. The manufacturer shouldn't be too hard to determine given the numerous identifying characteristics visible.

  9. #3059
Well the differences between the various SPAD models were not huge, and this delightfully hazy pic doesn't help much ! I'll have a stab at the SPAD 5, if only because I can't find a photo of it......

  10. #3060
And the torch is passed to Lefty with the Spad 5. Perhaps it's time for me to take a break from the Hazy, Grainy, and slightly out of focus rarities. :mixedsmi: Over to you sir.

Note: Just for the record, the Spad 5 was the prototype of the production 7's, and can be distinguished by it's short individual exhaust stacks and a smaller windscreen than early production 7's.

  11. #3061
The SPAD 5 prototype originally had a large spinner a la Fw190, which ain't on this one, but I think they binned it. As for the windscreen, er, I canna see one at a' !!
Here's a wee floater, or more correctly a wheelie-floater (amphibian to you lot)

    Attachment 794

(doubtless Moses will claim I've posted it before, but now he can't prove it !)

I'm off curling in Aberdeen all day, so keep it flowing, chaps !

  12. #3062
    Haven't a clue. USA? Russian?

  13. #3063
    European.

  14. #3064
    Nearly KO'ed by a PZL-12!

  15. #3065
The usual Polished performance by Moses.........

  16. #3066
The clue helped. Was stuck in a mental rut.

Here is an obvious one. Or is it?

  17. #3067
Zenith Albatross Z.12. Open board (if correct, of course)

  18. #3068
    for DHC2 on the trimotor!

  19. #3069
Well, since it IS open board...... hehehe.
I'll bless you all with another nice black & white photo, this time IN FOCUS, with MINIMAL GRAIN and good contrast. (somewhat out of character for me lately)
This time a sesquiplane with what appears to be a couple dozen squadron insignias painted on the side.

  20. #3070
    Minimal grain? Wow!

This one made an appearance once before. I shall recluse myself from it.

  21. #3071
If it has been posted then we'll try something else. You guys have been at this forum far longer than I, ang I don't want to be the one to repeat entries.

  22. #3072
    This one been posted?

  23. #3073
Caramba ! The Tequila Special got whipped away from under our noses - well I've managed to ID its neebor, as we call them here. It's the Packard-Le Pere LUSAC-11.

  24. #3074
Yes, far too easy. Over to you sir.

  25. #3075
I'm thinking this wee wheely-floater has been posted before, but can't find it in this thread, so we'll give it another airing.
Moses will doubtless do the honourable thing......
