Thread: The Ongoing Mystery Aircraft Thread Part Deux.

Looks a little bit like a pregnant Norseman.

  2. #2752
Not a one-off. Actually, while the tires are modern, the aircraft is not!

Here is a shot of her in action-

  3. #2753
A bit snookered here - it looks like basically a Fairchild/Pilgrim 100, but re-engined, and the window configuration is wrong.

  4. #2754
I think you nailed it Lefty - Looks like the A model to me, but as you said, possibly re-engined with a 600HP P&W R-1340 instead of the original P&W Hornet.

  5. #2755
    A dark ale for Lefty.

This is listed as a Pilgrim 100B "NC709Y" but it's lineage is a little confusing. Built in 1931 and was still doing bush work in Alaska into the 1990's I think. It is now being restored for a museum display.

  6. #2756
Yes it has certainly been modded over the years !

    Here's a oddball twin..

  7. #2757
    Wickham Model B methinks.

  8. #2758
Well done - thought that one might have been a stranger to the Moses vaults !

  9. #2759
Thanks. One of the benefits of being home sick is plenty of archive time.

I will see your twin and raise you 14 (Edit) wing struts...

Have a feeling Moses has hit us with another Balkan Bomber here -the murky photo and clumsy design tend to indicate that - mind you, I've been wrong before.............

Almost looks like one of those wooden decoy jobs.

  11. #2761
Does have that grainy Balkan feel but is not from the East...

  12. #2762
Could our multi-strutted bird be the Hopfner HR-14/34 from 1936??

  13. #2763
I'm pretty confident about this one, so I'll move on. With a little bit of luck this one will last until Christmas morning. I'll probably be tied up for a day or two with the holiday, so here's wishing Moses, Lefty, and all the other regulars and semi-regulars a wonderful Christmas.

  14. #2764
Firstly, a hearty ale for DHC2. It is indeed the one-off Hopfner. Well done.

We are having a rare treat in North Texas with actual snow on Christmas Eve! Snapped a shot from the front yard.

Will be away for a day or so as we are visiting the in-laws this year for Christmas. Merry Christmas to everyone.

  15. #2765
Snow in Texas ! Join the club !

Have a great Christmas, Kevin, and all you other regulars at what they are calling the Hysterical Wings Forum

    Here's my fishpond.....(anyone see a polar bear there ????)

  16. #2766
I think DHC2's mystery is a Russian Gratsiansky Omega trainer of 1933.

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas! The kids really raked it in this year. Can't go more than a few feet without stubbing my toe on a toy truck or wooden block of some sort.

  17. #2767
Moses, you've done it again. Somewhere DEEEEEP in my archive lies an airplane you've never seen before. Problem is finding the bugger. Over to you sir. Oh, by the way, you think you have snow problems, come to Chicago.....11 inches today. Ughh, good thing it was powder.

  18. #2768
Thanks. So much for global warming. At least this winter so far.

How about this portly airliner? Apparently the passengers had plenty of room but the flight performance suffered.

  19. #2769
This is a stinker. One built to accommodate 6 passengers in luxury. Flight testing proved it was a unwieldly mess and nothing more came of it.

  20. #2770
    I think I'm hot on it's trail....don't give too much away now...LOL

I think our bulbous beast is the Groppius GAZ-5

  23. #2773
Spot on DHC2! Thought the obscure Russian would stay on the board.

    Over to you-

  24. #2774
    Let's try this......

  25. #2775
That Sir, is a Dewoitine D.35.

Off to bed but before I go I leave you all with this pushy amphibian...
