Seems such a shame that they got the hard bit done, i.e getting to Cuba, and then disappeared on the short leg.

If they had had one of these at least they could have landed on the water..

Has a Tellier or Donnet-Denhaut look but nothing has turned up yet.

  3. #9578
Here's the same machine before the moths got at the upper wing. It will also reveal that Moses is in the right country !

A one-off manufacturer, but a batch of 20 were produced, with 280hp Renaults - they proved less popular with their crews than the Donnet-Denhaut and George Levy machines......

I'm still amazed by the shear volume of 'hydravions' the French have produced prior to WW2.....
Intel i9-13900 Raptor Lake , Be Quiet! Dark rock slim cooler, 32 Gb Corsair DDR5 RAM, MSI Z790 Tomahawk motherboard, Asus RTX 4060Ti 16Gb, Thermaltake 1050 Watt PSU, Windows 11 64-bit 1 m2, 4 SSD, 2 HDD.

Well I suppose that, like Britain, not only did they have a lot of coastline to protect, but they had all those faraway colonies...

I think that's why I have always loved flying boats - the thought of flying away to somewhere exotic, and landing in a sleepy lagoon - just waiting for those dusky maidens to paddle out........

I suspect in reality it was cold, very noisy and WET !

  6. #9581
OK, this was the Coutant RMC Type 17 from 1918.

Let's try something a bit more modern - how about a wee trainer ?

  7. #9582
Seen this one before... Want to say it's from South America or someplace exotic.

    Well say it then......

I took my vitamin and it came to me. From Chile of all places, a HF XX-02.

Where has Wout been? This is right in his wheelhouse.

  10. #9585
You got the Chile baby Let's have some more exotica from the vaults....

(I expected a Dutch intervention there, too. Maybe he's on vacation....)

  11. #9586
This unassuming monoplane could be labeled exotic.

  12. #9587
This one is from below the equator...

  13. #9588
A one-off that might have been assembled from a Boulton Paul airframe. Reported to have been the first metal monoplane built from this southern country.

It is the 'Wonga' designed by L.J.R.Jones in Australia in the very early 1930's. Came to a sticky end in 1932.

Also notable for being re-engined with an Australian-built motor....

  15. #9590
Well done Mike! The Wonga it is.

  16. #9591
Thanks Kevin. (Wonga in this country has other connotations - a 'payday loan' company that charges around 5000% pa interest !)

    Here's a wee ag-plane of unusually neat design -

Hi Walter - the Kraken wakes !!

You are of course, correct, well, almost. This is in fact the FL.55 Meteor, with the 150hp Lycoming.

    The FL.53 had a tiddly 60hp C.N.A engine, and the intermediate FL54 an 85 or 90hp Continental.

Over to Holland, (who sadly let me down in the World Cup )............

    Hi Mike !
Thank you for correct Meteor model . Always thought the pic showed a -53. Never too young to learn!
In order to avoid a complete breakdown, decided to be a supporter of our neighbours, al least till and including coming Sunday.

I hope this one was not on earlier. Checked with search.

This one is right up Moses' street - as a baby, all the mobiles over his cot had twin booms and pusher engines............

    You might be right!

The twin boomer is of mid 1970's Austrian descent. The Souczek Bussard II.

    Hi Kevin !
    As always completely correct
Although Austrian by design, test flights were done in Germany, hence the D-KBUS registration.
    Please surprise us!

Thanks Walter. What the heck is this?
