Not only does it look like a Koolhoven F.K.41 (Desoutter), I think it is G-AAGC.
I was in an old Slingsby T.21 with my dad, flying near Chipping Norton, when, suddenly, my dad did a sharp diving turn as nine bright red jets in tight formation roared a couple of hundred feet above us.
Occasionally we flew in a temporary formation with an F.111 going into Upper Heyford and on one memorable occasion, as I turned onto finals, I found myself looking head on to a B.52 who was on the downwind leg for Upper Heyford.
I think the Detroiter pilot was Paul Braniff ?
Drinks all round!
I know Upper Heyford (and Chipping - as well as Brize - Norton) quite well. Grew up in Oxford, hence the flying at Abingdon. Had a friend in the USAF & used to visit the base. He worked with F-111s, on the ground (directing, not fixing, them).
That Koolhoven was for you Ferry! Your shot...
And you're right, Mike, about Paul R. Braniff, who founded the eponymous airline with his brother Thomas.

Let's try this one:
Pattist-Walraven PW-1?
for Ralf on the Sikorsky. I thought the French looking tail might throw you all off.

Just tuned in again - our Moses has really scored with an exotic lady there ! You would have beaten me fair & square, Ferry. I don't know where he finds them all.
Hehe. Just got lucky really on that one. Had it stashed away for a rainy day.
How about this monoplane with odd landing gear?

Odd landing gear ? I'm trying to work out where the cockpit begins and ends !
Here is another pic I had of the PW-1.

Methink Moses' mystery is an "avion laboratoire Messier". AFAIK, it had no specific designation - but again my sources aren't flawless![]()
More or less agree with & Co., and definitely agree with lefty that the bit where the pilot goes isn't very clear! It's obviously an experiment to test that crazy, backwards tricycle undercarriage arrangement. The poor old aircraft has some Italian characteristics, but if I had to plump for any nationality, I'd say French*. Don't know much about their projects, I'm a bit better on German & British experimentals.

Yes, I found references to the Messier CT 001 - but 1929 seems a bit early for this one.
Actually, it was a testbed for retracting landing gear - mounted along with a fixed one.
It is sometimes also referred to as "Georges Messier", 1st flight on April 21st, 1934.
It seems the CT-001 never went past the mockup stage.
