Very much a miniature Gamma - even the tail is identical - and therefore the obvious conclusion is that it is American. But I have a sneaking feeling it ain't.......

Gotcha ! Could not get Stearman out of my head - then moved a stage further along the S's and got to Stinson ! It is the Model M.
The Northrop lookalike is indeed the Stinson M of 1932.
