Convinced the stubby fellow is a Russian but not ruling out some parts of Eastern Europe. Struggling a bit on this one.
BTW- Nice photo lefty. Like the retro touch.

Better rush in before we go offline again - for Brits this has almost become an evening-only site !
Mystery is indeed Russian - not from a major manufacturer - 200 ordered by the VVS but never produced.
well, it's got enough bits for me to say Polikarpov, but even with the Rata similarities ( including the external tanks) I can't pin it down
"To some the sky is the limit. To others it is home" anon.
OK, it's a Nikitin NV-2bis.
Tempted to go for the hat-trick, but, as you know, I'm a decent sort of chap, so here's an easy one.
Who is this stuck-up dame ?

Something French? Never seen this one before. Some kind of STOL experiment or does the whole engine swivel upward for easy access?

It also flew with the engine in the more conventional position.
I am a wee bit surprised....... Big manufacturer. Not American.
Something designed by Richard Scholz in 1934 after he was run out of Germany? White flag is waving again. Enjoying the challenges of late though.
Can anyone unseat Lefty's run here?![]()

I'd say a Hispano Suiza engine, the whole plane looks like a Bernard but i wouldn't bet a [LINESTRIKE]hand[/LINESTRIKE] [LINESTRIKE]finger[/LINESTRIKE] nail on it.
Howdy Kevin ? Howdy Lefty ?
Hi Yann, nice to see you around. Gentlemen ( and I use the term advisedly), you will be ashamed to find out that this is a Dornier Do10 from 1931, which tested tilted-engine installations, and used Rolls-Royce, BMW and Hispano-Suiza engines ! (So you may well be right, Yann .)
Anyway, hat-trick scored - it's surely time for a floater!![]()

Howdy Yann. Please don't be a stranger. We need your help!
Shame on us for missing the Dornier. Although I don't feel too bad because no one got the Focke-Wulf GL18 either!
Thought this one was Italian but now thinking it must be a one-off Frenchy. Having a dry spell here.![]()

Not French, Kevin, so give Aviafrance a rest...
(when did you post the GL18 ?)
Rgr on the hint.
Here was one of the posts on the FW:

Okay, let's have it Lefty. This Macchi-ish floater has befuddled enough!
Charter Member SOH RTWR Team
The Macchi-like machine is a Chyetverikov ARK-3-2.
We obviously need something a little easier, so try this one..
I see Ickie's tweaking has knocked out the image uploading again.......
Boulton Paul P.108 prototype with the Bristol Mercury radial.
Will keep the easy theme going with the gull-winged little fella...
