    Thanks Manuele & Italian Wings...

    For this beautiful aircraft! It is one of the 'civilian aircrafts' I fly most often....

    Oh BTW Manuele, I found out the story about the three mice. They were meant to scare the women who approached the aircraft and crew too close...... Definitely a weird story :d

    Oh yes ! Despite being a FS9 plane, it's one of the most beautifull birds in my FSX hangar, and for sure one of the greatest virtual cockpits I've ever seen !

  3. #3
    This bird is sitting on the runway at Genova Sestri and waiting for me, every time I fire up FS9!

  4. #4
    Does anyone happen to know where I can get it ?

    Hi All,
    I like that airplane from Manuele Villa and there is also a payware one from LAGO, which is without the Hump and i think is even nicer to look at.Here is a shot of each.

    and here is the LAGO version! I don't seem to be able to write below this pic !

    Andy,

    The I-12 (I-ROTR) was a converted production bomber used by the Italian team during the "Istres/Damascus/Paris" race (Lindberg Cup, 20/21 August 1937). Therefore this particular aircraft 'most probably' had the 'hunch' (I haven't been able to find any pictures from the real aircraft).

    I do agree the version without the hunch look very nice as well, but somehow I think the Spaviero isn't a real Spaviero without the 'hunch'.

    Cheers,
    Huub

    Most probably has become certain!

    After a long search I have found a picture of the real I-ROTR. As you can see it is an 'hunch back'.

    Cheers,
    Huub

    Wasn't Manuele working on an expansion pack for the Sparviero that would include a 'humpless' race version..?
    Intel i9-13900 Raptor Lake , Be Quiet! Dark rock slim cooler, 32 Gb Corsair DDR5 RAM, MSI Z790 Tomahawk motherboard, Asus RTX 4060Ti 16Gb, Thermaltake 1050 Watt PSU, Windows 11 64-bit 1 m2, 4 SSD, 2 HDD.

    When Manuele was working on the expansion pack for the SM.79, he mentioned he wanted do a civil model without the 'hunch back' as well. As he has been busy with many other models I guess a SM.79 SC isn't on his priority list yet.

    In the past I was tempted to purchase the 'Crossings' set from Lago. Not just for the Corsa Spavieros, but for the beautiful FIAT CR.32 as well. When Manuele finished the conversion of the Italian Wings SM.79, it was so good, I decided not to purchase the set anymore. However when they lower the price like Captian Sim does with older models, I still might purchase the set.

    Cheers,

    Huub

    Hi,

    Interesting about the varieties with or without humps! I tried looking for a bit more info but quickly got my brain in a tangle and just decided to be satisfied with them as they are. Manuele has produced the FIAT G18 and is in the process of giving us the wonderful looking G12 in various guises, so there's lots to look forward to

    I have one small problem with that Plane which is near Perfect

    but according to the Manual of Lagos old "the Crossings" Payware (I use it as reference for the Corsa Variant)
    the Corsa in Lagos old Payware has 7000Liter Fuel tanks the Freeware by Manuele & Italian Wings has around 2200Liter
    which makes the historic flight Istres-Damscus-Paris near Impossible

    how can I finetune the cfg to behave more like a CORSA version of the SM-79?

    Lagos Tanks Configuration
    1 Center 305 Gal/1156 Liter
    2 Right 305 Gal/1156 Liter
    3 Left 305 Gal/1156 Liter
    4 Right tip 108 Gal/409Liter
    5 Left tip 108 Gal/409Liter
    6 Auxiliary right 108 Gal/409Liter
    7 Auxiliary left 108 Gal/409Liter
    8 Auxiliary Center 184 Gal/696 Liter

    so I may have to modify this section in Freeware:

    [fuel]

    //Longitudinal (feet), Lateral (feet), Vertical (feet), Usable(gallons), Unusable (gallons)

    fuel_type = 1
    number_of_tank_selectors = 2

    Center1 = 0, 0, 0, 178, 0
    LeftMain = 0, 0, 0, 325, 0
    RightMain = 0, 0, 0, 325, 0

    to make it short what I just want to say it would be nice to have an alternate aircraft.cfg reflecting the SM-79CS performance

    Hi,

    the cfg I have shows 7000 litre capacity for the 79C and I added it for you to look at here.

    It might be helpful to you

    thanks

    I have changed the cfg of the Manuele & Italian Wings version
    but I run into trouble that it wont lift off the ground

    PS:
    Manuele if you read this please consider providing an alternate FDE that reflects S.M.79CS Performance!

    this is the LAGO airplane, but what I cannot find are any civilian repaints and I'm too slack witted to think of trying to do my own!

    at the moment I fly the Lago S.M.79CS on Istres-Damascus-Paris

    Etappe 2 Damascus-Le Bourget

    glad that I purchased this long time ago (a true Classic!)

    For a detailed report on the 1937 race from the Putnam Aeronautical Review, look here: http://books.google.ca/books?id=9GDH...20race&f=false

    Included are great descriptions of the aircraft and some details of the modifications. Note that the SM-79s were modified with extra fuel tanks, the standard wing tanks were enlarged and the aircraft was allowed to take off at a Gross Weight of some 14,000 Kg (overloaded).

    Trying to mate the two may take more than matching the apparent numbers (as quoted):

    Lagos Tanks Configuration
    1 Center 305 Gal/1156 Liter
    2 Right 305 Gal/1156 Liter
    3 Left 305 Gal/1156 Liter
    4 Right tip 108 Gal/409Liter
    5 Left tip 108 Gal/409Liter
    6 Auxiliary right 108 Gal/409Liter
    7 Auxiliary left 108 Gal/409Liter
    8 Auxiliary Center 184 Gal/696 Liter
    Total 1531 Gal / 5800L.

    but the cfg. file lemonadedrinker posted shows:
    411 + 108 + 411 + 108 + 411 + 184 + 108 + 108 = 1849 USG or 6999.2 L

    Now, 1531 Imp. Gal does come very close at 1839 US Gal so I'm first of all curious if Lago got the numbers stated in the manual muddled (Imp. vs US Gal). Interesting too that the Lago Manual lists the smaller tanks at 108 Gal as does the cfg. but there is a significant difference in the 3 larger tanks 411/305 but even that doesn't match as 305 Imp Gal = 366 USG (not 411). Was someone 'just trying to make things work'?

    There is a significant difference in the weights in the two .cfg files as well:

    MVG SM79
    max_gross_weight = 23644
    empty_weight = 15479
    disp. load = 8165

    Lago SM79
    max_gross_weight= 26780.000
    empty_weight= 14991.000
    disp. load = 11789

    Simply adding the Lago fuel numbers to the MVG .cfg will certainly lead to issues and probably wreak havoc with the wt/balance as well. Being overweight or out of CofG limits will certainly affect the flight characteristics. Someone with more knowledge of air files can go into the other parameters that might differ between the two .air files

    you are right I looked into Printed manual of Lagos SM79 again

    and it show other values than they have in Aircraft.cfg
