    Last Exile Questions

    Hey all,

I am watching the wild Last Exile series again for the 3rd time. I have some theories going that the movie doesnt really talk about.

I am thinking that there are two planets. I am also thinking that they are somehow linked by this 'Grand Stream'. This would explain the 'hour glass' drawings of the Grand Stream, the wind joining the two worlds.

Another thing that supports this is all the refuge's getting into the huge rockets (perhaps 50+ stories high with Junkers Duraluminum skins). Why would they need colony ships to go to another continent. If the planet were too huge, the gravity would be so great they couldnt survive. Thus again I think they were going to the other world through the Grand Stream.

On one scene, the Silvanah had encountered some Disith heavy cruisers in the Grand Stream. After the battle, the Silvannah drops down out of the Grand Stream and enters Atmosphere. A wierd atmospheric 'thing' occurrs where the Silvannah, coming through a 'barrier' appears to be going through a bright electrical like shimmering hole in the sky, and they it seals up as the Silvannah clears it.

So I think the worlds are joined by this phenomenon.

All I can figure is Norkia is on one world, very Germanic type, colonized long ago, and the Disith, are on another world that is more severe weather wise. It seems one side needs water, and the other side has their needs as well.

You can see the 'hour glass icons' or art of the Grand Stream that appear to have two worlds that the GS surrounds.

So there. Thats my theory and I am sticking by it. Only makes sense to me.

    Hi Lionheart,
This might answer some of your questions.

If I understood the movie right (after watching it once - with captions, playback, rewind, if you know what i mean!), that there are really two planets the Disith and the Anatoray. The GrandStream (a very high intense space current) has to be crossed to reach the other planet. Yes, somehow that hourglass thingy - the link that connects them- the GrandStream!

What is a Norkia? I thought there are only two planets/worlds? I need a glass of First Water, please!

    Hey Eli,

    Ok, that does make sense.

Norkia is that village/city that Klaus and Lavi live in. It looks like its down in a huge cavern like hole in the ground.

Thanks also Budhha for the link.

The movie is radically complex. I still cant believe all the tremendous amount of details they put into it. It would be the coolest computer game. For instance, they have a little bottle/tube thing, with Claudia fluid in it, and a small weight sphere. Fits in your hand. If you hold it up next to the engine tubes at the rear, if there is sufficient anti-gravity being generated in that zone, the sphere starts rizing. There are markings on it to show the amount of gravity being generated... or 'anti-gravity' should I say.

Wild series... I am going to have to pull the Vanship model out of mothballs and start working on it again.

Then they activate the Exile Colony Ship, and the Stream all goes away....
And didn't the Guild have something to do with all this? Gotta watch it all again!

Good points.. I didnt think about that. Like where did the high tech machinery come from that the Guild have?

But.. the Exile ship seemed to be seperate from the Guild.

The key poems were quite interesting. One says something to the effect of; 'Where are all souls born, and all souls return to, the blue star... '

Some Trivia, for those that didnt know this.

Klaus' Vanship was the first Vanship built to endure the Grand Stream, created to actually cross it from one world to the other. It was one of two made. Remember that the two ships were to carry a treaty agreement to the other world and make peace for everyone.

    Two features that none of the other Vanships have;
    * Corrugated skins, (like an early German Junkers aircraft). Probably designed to keep the panels from pealing off when in the intense winds.
    * Armoured like front intake scoop. It looks more like plating rather then an ornamental grille. This would be able to hold up to the intense winds.

I found this out while parusing through the little ReadMe pamphlets that are in each DVD case. It clearly states that Klaus' Vanship was 'made' for this, the first of its kind. Only this morning did I put the two together, the armoured like appearence of his compared to the air racer like qualities of all the others with louvers and smooth skins..

Small trivial note; Klaus' Vanship turns out to be Alex Rowes old Vanship, which he left at Klaus' dads house when returning to tell the children and wife that the two men were dead. Klaus had thought it was his dads Vanship.

One learns more and more about that series each time you watch it again...

    Thanks Lionheart,

Very Informative, was the one of the two Vanships, Klaus' dads that was found on the Exile? So I thought?

Exile is such an expansive series, you can watch it a 100 times and still see something new, or uncover new details.
And LH, those DVD foldouts are quite impressive.
    Look up
ISBN4-8443-5783-2 It's all in Japanese, but the pics are all in English!

    Thats right Eli,

I forgot about that. They did find them.

    Thanks Tim,

    I'll check that out.

This guy Gonzo is supposedly the writer. Man, he must have spent years on this project. So wierd how it has all these small details.

I imagine in the future when the filming industry has gone a bit farther in technology, they will be able to make this into a cool movie.

    Ok...

    Eli (alias ChaCha),

I see what you mean now...

On the last insert, there is a hint of a 'part 2', a sequel.

In this screenshot, you can clearly see that Dio survives. On the left, you can see partial bits of a person in a Guild suit. The shadow of the person on the ground shows a rounded top haircut. (Note the blank look and wide eyes on Tatianna's face).

    Who else could it be!?

They sure look different in civilian clothes.. (dresses).

    Lionheart/Bill,

I saw that one-that's why I concluded that there will defenitely be a part two!! (well actually it was Hannah, my eight year old daughter, who saw that one-I just said yeah, you're right!)

The series started 2003 in Japan, maybe after 10 years they will be another series coming - who knows! Interesting.

    Roger that ChaCha,

Too bad Mullin didnt make it. It seems he lived for the Freedom side of things, the end of the war.

Funny how Alex's Vanship is converted to a clothes hanger for drying laundry, lol.. Times of peace.

I wonder about that ship, Last Exile. It looks almost like something from Star Trek, with the grilles and wild wing like nacelles. Must carry a huge number of people. Perhaps that will be a huge component in the sequel, going to another star system.

I thought he did make it? Did you sit through the credits at the end of the final episode? It seemed fairly clear to me that Mullin and Dunya live "happily ever after."

I do agree with you on the whole "other star system" thing, though... didn't seem like an over-populated space-colony like their world could possibly support fields of wheat and bright pastoral days like we see at the very end...

    Hey Lionheart,

Mullin & Dunya lived happily ever after, Bill! Did they have even 2 kids, a boy and a girl on the last episode? (I thought it looks like Dunya- dark hair kids)
