    Question On .fx Files

    Hi All, I've been messing around with some Ships .dp files to make them look good when they get blowed up. Had a few good results and a couple of real laughfers...like a burnt earth texture showing up behind the stern of the boat. But the actual question I have is...do some of the .fx files subtract life points from a vessel once they are called up? Similar to how engfire_l.fx goes through systems on a aircraft once it's in play...causing it to sink sooner. I'm trying to make sence of the info in the .fx files. Two examples below, the 1st is the starting block of engstrt.fx. Very little going on there. The 2nd is also the starting block of data, but for ship_fire_l.fx. Lots of stuff there. Any clues as to the meaning of all the lines in the 2nd example? This has always ben a mystery to me.

    (fx_engstrt.fx)
    [Library Effect]
    Lifetime=5
    Version=1.00

    (fx_ship_fire_l.fx)
    [Library Effect]
    Lifetime=15
    Version=1.00
    Damage=1
    Hitpoints=75.00, 100.00
    Magnitude=20000.00, 20000.00
    Time=0.30, 0.30
    Range=200.00, 300.00
    Fire=1
    Fire Delay=5.00

    You know, Nibbio has an effect that leaves an oil slick behind a damaged ship with oil and debris for a sunk one. http://web.tiscali.it/Nanni/CFS/

    Most of it is a mystery to me too. I just usually adjust and fire for effect.

    I do think that Lifetime is how long the effect stays active in seconds. But if it were 0 (zero), CFS2 will not end the effect..it will always be be displayed.

    Oops! I think I was thinking of the Lifetime in the Emitter section of the effect file, so not really sure about the Lifetime in the Library Effect section.

    Effects SDK

    Dvslats,

    I've been going through some of my old download links and found this:

    About halfway down the page find 'FS2002 Special Effects Software Development Kit'

    http://files.fsnordic.net/Flight_Sim...ellaneous/SDK/

    You may find this useful for learning more about the effects files.
    I had completely forgot I had this site link earlier on.

    Cheers,
    O
