    Icon22 Two Classics

I was out flying around in my old red and white "Gooney Bird" and came up on this PT-17. I found the red and white paint at flightsim. This PT-17 is based at Douglas, Georgia. Douglas was the home of one of the many WWII pilot training bases in Georgia. There is a nice museum there. There is also a WWII C-47 based there along with about three more WWII aircraft being restored.

Doesn't look like a hard one to do....particularly as you have the text graphic....

    Beggars can't be choosers

Beggars can't be choosers. And those who can't shouldn't tell those who can. But...

I love the weathered look many of you are creating; after all, few of us can fly (in RL or sim) a spanking new aircraft, especially a 60+ year old Gooney Bird.

But to my eye the grime/wear/shading along rivet lines in most repaints is much too pronounced.

Indeed there are a couple of skins that I love but simply never fly because they just don't look realistic.

May I humbly, with hat in hand on bended knee, ask you wizards and magicians to google images of C-47s and DC-3, and look how their seams look--especially the ones that have been rode hard and put away wet.

    The effect is very subtle.

Hey Joe, did you ever finish your NACA bird? If not, are you planning to upload it when you are done?

    Hey Steve,

I just need to go over the Naca, Patuxent and Varig paints to make sure there are no missed parts. Then do the cfg edits,
type up the readme's and zip them up. I hope to have them uploaded this weekend.

I'm having a go at this one....although it has already been done before, It appeared to have 'anomalies' so I'm in the throes of a full repaint from scratch...

Bane of the painter....searching for fonts...

Thanks Joe. Not rushing. Just wanted to make sure I didn't miss it. These birds are scattered all over the library. Seems I find one in a new hiding place almost daily!

    why? That looks great!
You post this as the modern version, and I'll try and make mine look like the WW2 version?

Here's a my first shots, clearly the nose needs more attention:

On one of the earlier posts (might have been the original Douglas C-47 v3 thread) there was a screenshot of the New Zealand National Airways Corporation livery.

I've searched but haven't found it anywhere.

Just wondering, has it been released?

Love this C-47 beastie, brilliant work to all who helped in the development.

    Thanks,

    Pete.
