    Where does a person find all the carriers listed in the AI Ships window? Tried the CVN 65 Enterprise as a example but still get error message. Curious if list should be updated for working carriers only. Thanks.

    If you let the installer install for you.. it contains the program (AIC) plus repaints for the default FSX carrier. This is where all the extra carriers come from. They're not new models.. just repaints (deck and island numbers) and are listed in the Boats folder as VEH_carrier01_texturepack.

    Probably a dumb question, but how do I know the location of a carrier when departing from land?

    The carrier has a frequency you can tune into with the RFN gauge. It points you to the carrier and even has a ILS function.

    Hope this helps,

    DaveB: I did use the setup.exe that was downloaded with the AICarrier2r2. I also put the cvn_68_69.cfg in the conf.d folder. I have the Nimitz_Eisenhower installed and it does work. But no luck with CVN65. Do *All* AI's show up when selected? Maybe I have missed something else? Thanks for your reply.

    Hi Manfred..

    Not a dumb question if you don't know how the program works. With AIC.. you takeoff and fly out to sea. When you call up a carrier in the AIC menu, it will appear at the distance you prescribe (user position, 1nm, 5nm, 10nm) AND.. will appear on the heading you are on when you call it up. Good idea to nip back into the menu and click 'Forward' to set the carrier moving. They appear stationary by default

    Hi hardlucksam

    The carriers/ships listed in the formations of conf.d in it's basic (unedited) form should appear as they're all default ships. As you've seen, for other ships to show.. you have to add a formation to conf.d manually. As long as the entries are correct and the ship is in your Boats folder.. they should show. The most common problem with ships not showing (or an error displaying along the top of the screen) is that the entry in conf.d is incorrect. It only has to be one character out to throw an error. Here's formation.0 as an example..

    [formation.0]
    title=CVN 68 USS Nimitz (Single)
    unit.0=veh_carrier01_hd_cvn68, 0, 0

    The title= line can read whatever you want including spelling errors! However.. the unit.0= line (and subsequent lines) must be EXACTLY the same as the title= line taken from the sim.cfg for the ship you want to see. The characters after.. , 0, 0 place the carrier at the centre of the formation. You need these entries (though they won't always be , 0, 0) even if there is only one ship in the formation.

    Thanks Cees and DaveB.

    Been getting familiar with Rob Richardson's scimitar, but couldn't locate any AI carriers. Yeah, I know.... Going to be another learning curve, but enjoy trying new things.

    Gonna give this another shot after the camping weekend.

    Hope the weather stays good for you

    Using the RFN gauge Cees mentioned is a slightly different ball game to finding a ship using AIC though in poor vis.. they're still surprisingly difficult to see and RFN will help

    DaveB: I checked SimObjects/Boats. I have nothing about USS Enterprise or maybe VEH_CV65 in that folder. Where can I download the needed file to work in AICarrier? Many Thanks,

    Hiya Sam..

    The extra carriers AIC2R2 installs are all in VEH_carrier01_texturepack (in the boats folder) and this gives the basic FSX carrier side and deck numbers for CVN's 68 (Nimitz), 71 (Roosevelt), 72 (Abe Lincoln), 73 (G. Washington) and 76 (Ronnie Reagan). There are freeware variations of Enterprise available but nothing modern. The only 'modern' one I know of is by Team SDB.. CVN 65 and this is payware. The default AIC2R2 install gives you this conf.d file..

    [formation.0]
    title=CVN 68 USS Nimitz (Single)
    unit.0=veh_carrier01_hd_cvn68, 0, 0
    [formation.1]
    title=CVN 71 USS Teddy Roosevelt (Single)
    unit.0=veh_carrier01_hd_cvn71, 0, 0
    [formation.2]
    title=CVN 72 USS Abe Lincoln (Single)
    unit.0=veh_carrier01_hd_cvn72, 0, 0
    [formation.3]
    title=CVN 73 USS George Washington (Single)
    unit.0=veh_carrier01_hd_cvn73, 0, 0
    [formation.4]
    title=CVN 76 USS Ronald Reagan (Single)
    unit.0=veh_carrier01_hd_cvn76, 0, 0
    [formation.5]
    title=CVN 68 USS Nimitz (Group)
    unit.0=veh_carrier01_hd_cvn68, 0, 0
    unit.1=veh_cruiser01,-500, -300

    ... and this as the aicarriers.cfg:

    No Enterprise there I'm afraid though you can get the CV5 Enterprise from the library here and add it manually.

    Dave, thank you so much for your time and patience. Cannot believe the USS Enterprise is not available. I have the Team Payware version.

    Then in that case.. look in the Enterprise folder (in Boats) and you see a folder called AICarriers which contains the following entries..

    [formation.0]
    title=CVN65 Enterprise 80s
    unit.0=VEH_CVN65_Enterprise_80s,0,0
    unit.1=VEH_SH-3H_Seaking_80s, -150, 0
    unit.2=VEH_Robison,600, -400
    [formation.1]
    title=CVN65 Enterprise 90s
    unit.0=VEH_CVN65_Enterprise_90s,0,0
    unit.1=VEH_SH-3H_Seaking_90s, -150,0
    unit.2=VEH_Robison,600, -400
    [formation.2]
    title=CVN65 Enterprise 80s Empty
    unit.0=VEH_CVN65_Enterprise_80s_Empty,0,0
    [formation.3]
    title=CVN65 Enterprise 90s Empty
    unit.0=VEH_CVN65_Enterprise_90s_Empty,0,0

    The Seaking and Robison should already be in your Boats folder (they're part of the Enterprise package) so cut and paste this into your conf.d file. Make sure you renumber the formations so that the numbers run consecutively It's a lovely carrier.. a bit heavy on frames but not heavy enough to stop me using it. If you've not done so already.. check out Javiers Nimitz and Eisenhower v2 (uss_nimitz_ike_version2.zip). Can't remember if it's in the library here but it's definitely at Simviation under FSX/MISC.
