    Siai Marchetti S-211 Project

As I am struggling to recover my work on the Eurofighter - and since I am getting quite frustrated with that - I was looking for new project to regain new motivation and momentum... So I contacted MyJet - a charter company based on the local airport - that also owns a SIAI Marchetti S-211... They were so kind to give me full access to the aicraft - and as result I started working on this.

The idea is to create a very detailed rendition of this aicraft and possibly (at a later date) its most recent derivatives by Aermacchi, namely the M-311 / M-345 (which is set to replace the MB-339 for the Frecce Tricolori).
The project will be compatible with both FSX and P3D. It will be most likely payware, although the price will be low... I will share more pictures soon, but I can tell you it is looking quite good so far!

I will resume work on the Eurofighter as soon as I'll find the will - will keep you update on that one too.

    Great news !
Indeed a new project was probably the best idea to get you out of this frustration. Good luck for the developpment

Nice info Dino (!!!) but what about M-346? It was in Your future plan too (as I remember) and its more modern plane ?

Grazie Dino! Ottima scelta! Ho avuto modo anni fa di vedere un'esibizione in volo di questo jet : in effetti è una piccola belva.
Veloce e maneggevolissimo! E poi è Italiano , Buon lavoro

    Good thinking Dino.
Instead of being continually frustrated attempting to recover previous work a fresh project is the best therapy.
I know, I have an MV Augusta still sitting in our workshop that I put to one side a few months ago........................
But I have finished rebuilding a Fireblade and a Duke so my head is ready to go back to the Augusta.

Good on you Dino! Great to hear of the new project. It looks like a gun of a plane you've chosen.

    Cheers,

Thanks for your support as usual...

M-346 is a very interesting machine - as also has significant capabilities in secondary roles. It has been on and off on my list as I know other developers were working on it...

The S-211 in the pictures is at walking distance for my office - which makes it an ideal subject.

That's great news! Is there any chance of recovering the MB 339 project or is that a complete loss?

  10. #10
As for the 339 the project was just started therefore I have not lost much.... basically just new texture templates with panel lines.
Problem with the 339 is that is a much loved aicraft here in Italy - so it needs to be done right as expectations would be incredibly high. I will probably do it, sooner or later, when I am in the mood for it.

As of today - a fresh start with the S-211 seems the best option.

    Interesting choice, Dino.

That's awesome news Dino! Given how much I enjoy flying your T-45 I'm sure I'll be flying the wings off of this as well. Besides, how cool that they allowed you access to it as well. Thanks for the preview.

...actually the S-211 has some commonalities with the T-45 :-)

That's not a jet I know, but it looks like one I'd have fun with. Looks like it would be nice in a Yellowjackets or Red Sparrows paint too - much in common with the Folland Gnat.

Great choice I think Dino. Also reminds me somewhat of the Alpha Jet which I still fly.

I consider myself pretty knowledgeable regarding airplanes of the world but I had nerve heard of this one. Looks like a great trainer and am looking forward to it.

Well, it is not a very popular plane... some 70 aicrafts have been buit, and it has been in service in Haiti, Singapore and Philippines. It was proposed by Grumman-Agusta (which owned the design at the time) for the JPATS program.
Most of the aircraft have been retired from military service, and went into private hands - there are some flying conditions around the world.
From what I understand it is a relatively cheap plane to operate and it is fun to fly.

Once Alenia/Aermacchi acquired the design rights it upgraded it with a new engine and new avionics... and it may have a fighting chance in the basic jet training market due to the fact it is inexpensive to operate.

Performance and missions seem to put it right into the L-39ZO's league. Can't wait for formation flying screenshots or videos of mock dogfights or aerobatics.

Some W.I.P. screenshots - project is looking good so far!
The external model is almost done... and the VC should be ready by the end of September.
Hopefully we will get a Beta in October.

It's a good choice, a training aircraft is always a funny bird!!!
Will it have an hook for naval ops?

I remember reading an article several years ago in some aviation mag (Air Progress, maybe?) about a pair of S-211's that came on the civilian market and the author of the piece was given some time in the front pit, writing that it was a seriously nifty piece of aviation kit. I genuinely look forward to seeing what you come up with...

A fantastic looking model as always Dino. Nice work. I have been enjoying your F-35 recently, and that never gets old.
