    Best Water Texture for FS9?

    Hey guys,
I am not satisfied with the water in FS9 (or FSX), and wonder what texture set you all recommend?
I would even settle for CFS2 style water over what I have.

Look up in the tweaks and tips section; the first thread; how to make fs9 look good for free.
    Several suggestions in there.

I use Mel's realistic water for FS9, makes the water look a lot more realistic IMO. Available at the usual places. Filename - Mel-s-realistic-water-for-FS9, just like that.

Mel's Realistic Water Textures for FS2004 (Category: FS2004 > Scenery)

I've created unique textures that produce very realistic looking water for Flight Simulator 2004! It features nice sunrise and sunset effects, realistic water ripples, and nice night water with moon reflections. You won't believe it's fs9! (remember to back up your original files)

    Mel water

    Zinertek water first release (payware)

The biggest difference is the less "pulsating" annoying effect with the Zinertek water

My advice to you is download all the "water" and "water effects" you can find and mix them until you have what you like.

Personally I like my water in FS9, but I must confess I really don't know anymore how I made it........ But I'm sure it is all freeware.

    Cheers,
    Huub

    Question

I appreciate 'each to their own', but I just tried the Mel's water and my G it's an almost psychedelic experience!!!.Ha!...sorry not for me....

TBH, and I have mentioned this before, but Huub, your screen shots with water always look superb, especially for us with the North Sea and Atlantic.

As you say your texs are an unknown compilation, but excellent, is their any chance, that you would package up your water, env and OceanHeightField texs, (should be about 20mb) and as you say all freeware, and post at SOH? Thanks.

    Cheers

From memory (it's eight years ago since I uninstalled Fs9) the best water textures were Bill and Lyn Lyons free add-ons.
    SYSTEM :
OS:Win7 Home Premium 64 bit UAC OFF!
DX version Dx10 with Steve's Fixer.
Processor:I5 4670k overclocked to 4.4 gHz with Corsair CW-9060008-WW hydro cooler
    Motherboard:Z87
RAM:16 gig 1866 gigaHz Corsair ram
    Video Card:MSI 1070 8 gig ram
    HD:2Tb Samsung 850 evo SSD

For FS9 I always used "Holger's water", a recipe created by Holger Sandmann. All freeware...

Personally, I use the FS default road day textures and the wonderful night textures by Lynn and Bill Lyons, contained in their "GA Water, Roads and Airport Textures" package: fs9watga3.zip (Avsim)

    Shessi,

As I don't know which restrictions the people who originally created the part for my water have put on redistributing their work, I can not just upload them.

Personally I appreciate some credits when somebody uploads my textures elsewhere. But I would already have my thoughts when somebody uploads my textures somewhere else without informing me. In this case it could even be that somebody has strictly forbidden to redistribute his or her work.

I hope you understand my decision,
    Huub

I'll admit to arriving at a similar status quo as Huub, regarding the question of water. :-)

Added, changed, tweaked things so much over the years - just wouldn't know where to begin in giving advice for any one particular scource.

As we already see, one man's water is another's headache.
So it's probably a case of 'suck it and sea' (pardon the pun).

But then; half the fun is GETTING THERE. :-)

Waterzone.zip doesn't make a difference between inland water and open sea. The same blue everywhere - not quite realistic! Neither Mel's water, BTW.

    That's possible to change this

I'm with Roger. I've always liked the Lyons' "Silver Wings" texture set.
Rats - why won't anything work properly first time?

Weird .. the Jamaica Bay water is plain white

Still better than overall dark blue!

I tested Holger water set ... and seems to be a winner as freeware option
And no annoying "pulsating" or "psyco" water ... lol

Can you post a screen ?
