    Hi all,

I'm pleased to announce the release of my Korean War "Chodo 1952" Scenery for FSX and P3D. Special thanks goes to my good friend Tom Stovall and Chris "Xpelekis" for their support with beta testing, and Cheers to Chris, who pointed me to that remote little island in the Korean Bay, asking if I could make a scenery there. It's been a pleasure and there was much to learn about history as well as refining some scenery and 3d design techniques.

The scenery is in the process of being uploaded and released by our trusty librarian Rami. Shouldn't be long.

    Cheers,
    Mark

(PS - sorry for the P3D/FSX cross post, but it's for both simulators)

Yes... this is a kind of excellent piece of scenery...

In video is quite different than final version (as you see in photo), since I use the Vietnam low res
textures & a previous version of the scenery (also none of my effects work in P3D v3...).
    Anyway. Really great work.

Now folks can fly their F-86 Sabre's and F9F Panther's with a place to land if you run into trouble. This little base was featured in "The Bridges at Toko Ri". Thorny took off in his S-5 helicopter to save Lt. Brubaker. He took off from the LST you will find in a bay just around the corner from the airfield. Really cool stuff with all the bells and whistles that Mark is so good at. See if you can find the nurse taking a shower. Have fun.

Awesome! I have also been hanging for this one since I first saw some pics. Outstanding job Mark. Thanks for your efforts.

Now we will all get to learn a bit of history and geography also while using this fantastic scenery.

    Cheers,

Great job on this scenery. I took a long look at it from the air in my Bell H-13 and took a ground tour in my drivable Willys Jeep. BTW, Tom, I found the nurse!

Thanks, guys! I'm glad that I finished it now, so I can turn my attention to "Laos 1968" again. I want to make a Lima Site package in the same quality or better as Chodo, beginning with LS-20a Long Tieng.

Mark, I'm really glad to hear this. I was afraid that you had given up on Long Tieng. Looking forward to some virtual Air America flying along with the Ravens.

Oh no, Long Tieng / Laos is on top of the list. This is my biggest challenge ever since I started scenery design, due to it's complex nature and location. I studied (still do) numerous books and all information on the net I could get my hands on. I want to make the best rendition possible - at least within my capabilities.

Thanks very much Mark for this piece of history. Great stuff!

I'm however puzzled by one of the installation instructions:

The shorelines require a modified terrain.cfg (which should be on every system, IMHO). You can get it
    here:
    https://flyawaysimulation.com/downlo...ed-terraincfg/
Be careful when you install this and follow the instructions, especially about saving your original
terrain.cfg prior to any modifications. Not using the modified terrain.cfg will result in no visible shorelines.

Development was on P3D V3.3, but the scenery should work in FSX because FSX SDK components were
    used.
I have FTX Vextor and Global installed. OrbX also modifies the terrain.cfg as far as I know. So how should I proceed? Should I replace, merge?
Could you provide some pointers please.

Thanks very much again for this great looking scenery!

    Nice,but when will be available?

@ zsolt: it's in the Warbirds Libraray, FSX Scenery. Link: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...d=113&id=21342

@ Anneke: You have to merge it. If you replace it you'll loose the custom FTX vector, landclass and autogen features, or other third party additions. Of course, you only need that if you don't see the shore lines.

The global terrain.cfg and the lack of an easy and fail safe administration (e.g. merging, adding) is a horrible concept. The best solution would be that a scenery could come with an own terrain.cfg, that adds custom vector or autogen to the global terrain.cfg in the context of that specific scenery. If I am not mistaken this was possible in FS9. I've suggested that already in the P3D feature request forums, but I think they shy away from that because it would further add to the incompatibility to FSX.

    Cheers,
    Mark

    Great stuff Mark!
I can't wait to see these new techniques applied to your Solomons update.
This is really the greatest scenery I've ever seen.

    Walking Man?!

    Sir,

Is that amazing model of the walking man available for download? That would make a terrific tool for making videos and simply enjoying touring airfields etc.

    Thank you.

If you refer to the guy with the jeans and the white shirt: this is a feature of Prepar3D, called Avatar. One can spawn him anytime in the sim. Unfortunately, there is no such thing in FSX.

    Best,

This is obviously a product of superfluous amount of research, work and creativity! You have my sincere congratulations Mark!

I simply had to try flying the Milviz F-86 in and out of there. Yes, it can be done. This is the TP version with just the guns loaded and 50% of fuel. By holding the breaks on engine spool up and full flaps, one can jump off at the end of the runway, just miss the high ground and trees and then flatten out to avoid stalling, raise gear, increase speed and raise flaps:

    Mark,
Thank you for this outstanding scenery. Being a lifetime M.A.S.H. fan and having spent 3 1/2 years in Korea, I'm really enjoying this. Thanks again!

I flew around the whole island in the dusk and made a rough video. Please excuse the silly notifications that I had forgotten to turn off in P3D. The landing is also rough but proves it is possible.

    Again, Mark, amazing work!

I tried some touch and go in the field, but i found it a little too short for F9F´s (The plane i tried). This plane and the f86 really used this base in the real thing that time? (Just asking for information purpose)
