I would have happily put my hand up to fly but I lack the confidence needed for the style of flying required in such a race.
Cheers
Pat

Wing down safely at PHUP. Deadsticked it in with zero fuel, and the Duenna insults me! As if the Mooney found a KC-135 enroute

This where life gets interesting.
Paul and I departed PHTO in identical aircraft, having both added fuel (he at 99.9%, me at ~94%) and flew the same climb profile to FL270.
We chatted about speed and course differences ( small but noticeable) and then looked at the fuel.
At about 1+45 into the leg he had 82% fuel and I was down to 35%!!!! data showed I would impact the water about 400 nm off the California coast with dry tanks.
OH, about this time the wind aloft dropped from (for me), 318/71 to 318/0 and has not changed since while Paul still has a nice breeze
OK, so much for the Formation Flight, but time to experiment... climb to FL370, reducing speed to 250 kts got me closer but still not enough.
Next step, reduce #2 engine thrust to idle.
Would someone call the Air Force and let them know I will be landing my 727 on their nice 15,000 ft runway in about 1:45 and it might be a one-shot attempt?
One more step... shut down #2 completely. currently showing KVBG with +2nm of fuel
