Look What I Have Become!
This is what we got in the past 28 hours.
NY webam not working for me....rats. NC
Look What I Have Become!
I used to live in upstate New York, went to school in Syracuse, and we called this normal back in the late 50's and 60's. Not so much anymore, it seems, but Buffalo, Watertown, and Syracuse used to get really belted. Buffalo and the towns nearer the lakes could easily see 6 to 10 feet of snow, and then there was the drifting.
Then I worked in NYC for 10 years, and 3 inches could bring the place to a crawl if not stand still. The problem in the city is that they didn't have the equipment to deal with lots of snow, and when they did, there was the question of where to put it all!
It appears from the webcam as if they've done a good job in Manhattan midtown, probably got a good start and were able to keep up better this time.
I've lived in Maine for 35+ years now, and I have never seen a storm such as those in "the olden days" in upstate NY, and I'm just as happy with that. Some snow is ok, but there is just no need for excess!
Nowadays it seems like ... "Look! A snowflake!! Quick, drive into the ditch!!!"
AAF Lament:
"Glory! No more regulations!
Rip them down at every station!
Ground the guy that tries to make one!
And LET US FLY LIKE HELL!"
From "There I Was...Flat On My Back" by Bob Stevens
Tune: Battle Hymn of the Republic
3 inches, ya says !! Around here if the ground shows a skiff of white the whole Puget Snd region rolls up and declares a "snow day". Only matched by the number of people that get in theys cars to drive to work (they don't know they ash from a hole in the ground about actually driving in real snow.)
Hmm, insert your own witty saying here --
