    CFS2 problem

    Help!

I have a slight problem. Having bought a new laptop a couple of months ago, (the old one died after I hit it...bloody Dells!....and I haven't got around to finishing my desktop build yet), I installed CFS2 (and FS9, and FSX).

CFS2 refuses to boot up. I've uninstalled it, reinstalled it in different folders, different disc drives (I've got three, a 256G SSD M2 boot drive, a 512 SSD fast drive and a regular 1Tb 7200 HDD for bulk storage) Result......nothing. I've tried combinations of "run as admin", run compatible as WinXP/3, W7...etc etc......nothing! refuses to initiate.

Running windows 10 Pro (was Win7 pro but upgraded) It ran fine on Win 8 on the old laptop. Also wouldn't run on Win 7 Pro before I updated.

FS9 & X Deluxe work fine. I had 2 versions of FS9 - my original 2 disc version and a single disc version I got from somewhere. FS9 did the same thing when I loaded the 2 disc version -so - uninstalled it and installed the 1 disc version and it runs fine! Whilst these are all very good, I want to get stuck back into CFS2!

Laptop specs - i7-4790K 4.0 GHz CPU, Nvidia GTX970m 6Gb video card and 16G DDR3/1800 ram - all drivers up to date.
Grand Prix Legends (another old favourite), with all the extras, loaded and runs great as well

I can't help think there's something simple I'm missing - but what, I'm damned if I know! A fresh copy to install (mines 16 years old)?

I do not have a laptop so I cannot help you. But if you need a new CFS2 Disc you can buy one here http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Comb...ht+simulator+2

When CFS2 starts is dose some check using clokspl.exe found in the CFS2 folder. Try some compat and run as admin settings on it.

IIRC a lot of the newer OS/ graphic card combos don't like CFS2 running full screen. This is the default for the first run of a new install?

After trying to run for the first time, does the sim create a cfs2.cfg file? If it does, you can at least edit this to get to windowed mode.

Otherwise my guess is an incompatible display screen resolution?

Or perhaps your Direct3D is too new a version?(I think CFS2 uses some Directx6 calls, eventually such backward compatibility will be dropped from the newer architecture).

    Spman,

Try right-clicking on the .exe file, select "properties," and try running in compatibility mode for XP or Win 7. Also, you're probably going to have turn the User Accounts Control (UAC) feature off. This, at least in Win 7, is done through the control panel under "users."
