by far the most satisfying thing about this one was getting the engine modifications done - getting the P&W Wasp to look like the Lycoming engine

new project is a civilian - the Aeronca Champ

I'll be putting it on floats and detailing the interior, adding a scratch-built Continental engine, and doing the other display model stuff I do.

    Always interesting!

An FYI: I have a scratch build under way for a client.
Lots of mini panel beaten brass sheet at this point, attempting to put off molding up a set of mid fifties Pirellis until much later.
    Bugger of a job.

Finally have the wings finished and installed. It took a while to get them laid up, infilled, shaped, sanded smooth and prepped for paint.

Here you can see she is standing up for the first time. The only struts left for me to fabricate are the trailing float struts - the mains and the wing support struts are all done.

The float struts are only attached to the floats in this image..I still have to paint them and the airplane so they are not glued to the Aeronca just yet.

The wing struts are also only fitted to the plane at this point - I'll take them off and paint them separately and then attach them after the air frame is painted.

I've added the intermediate wing struts and the step rails - also the oar has been fabricated, I just need to make the mounting brackets for it.

Also have yet to rig the rudder control lines and pulleys..not to mention the non-skid strips for the float decks - on and on it goes

i love seeing your work! i dont get in here much anymore.but ive thought about your models often, just yesterday really, spotted a kit of the WMF-5 ,seriously thought of getting it but my rc heavy equipment units keep me busy plus ive bought close to 1500 bucks worth of 1/25th scale big rig stuff for the winter.lol

  21. #321
I appreciate you saying that, Dave - and as far as the 1/25 scale big rigs go, I have built a couple of those in my day too so I get it.
Some of these RC monsters are beyond belief.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v45FQH1ZcYo

I have had the big WACO in the cart a couple of times but haven't pulled the trigger yet either- one of these days though.

One thing I just cannot understand though - and I see it in every RC video, from planes, to cars and trucks, to boats (though rarely with boats..)
It's the empty cockpit!!! The empty cab!! The driver-less, pilot-less, empty machine rolling along or flying by with NO ONE at the controls...

Modeling a parked car, truck or airplane with no one aboard is of course fine and acceptable - but to see something that is supposed to be a scale representation of the real thing fly past with an empty seat, cabin, cockpit, is just wrong to me.
Why do RC model makers do that?

By the way - are you an ATS guy ? https://americantrucksimulator.com/

Milan Paulus? Certainly have, he is a legend.
I've often wondered where he gets the time for his amazing builds.

    switching 'gears' again... Mack

    MPC's Mack DM-600 1/25" scale

it's a work in progress. I have always liked the style of the earlier Mack trucks - from the 60's essentially..
The colors are Racing White and British (racing) Green from Tamiya.
I wanted to get a PNW logging truck look to it.
The kit is the MPC model - there is at least one other Mack from this era by AMT just for clarity.
The inspiration came from both my appreciation for the style of the Mack as well as from the simulator American Truck Sim..there is a 3rd party mod creation of a similar Mack that I have outfitted for logging contracts.

I still have the balsa Grumman in the works - not abandoned - as well as a few other aircraft to build so we'll get back to that work shortly.

I just needed to get this out of my system
