    Help on a DP question

    Hello anyone,
Question about DP files for Library objects. As I slowly learn to add GSL scenery to my sceneries for Vietnam
I have one odd question.( most likely a stupid one)

Vietnam is set up for USArmy=1, USNavy=2, NVA=3

I notice many of the Library objects by Wolfi and others have allegiance=0

Should I change these, such as Warehouses, to one of the above...or will the pilot in a mission still get credit
for hitting an allegiance=0 target in a mission.

I am just a simple mud pusher from Mississippi, so please do not laugh really hard out loud.

    Much appreciated,

    Dave

    Hi Dave,

with the size of the Vietnam Project you churned out I wouldn't call you a "simple mud pusher from Mississippi".... My philosophy tells me there's always something new to learn, every day of our lives, so there are no stupid questions. Just questions.

I remember seeing stock objects with the allegiance= set to 0 as well. I always got credit for anything I was able to hit in CFS2.

Therefore I would tend to think there shouldn't be a problem with that. Allegiance assignments have a purpose when any given object is armed and will fire on you, such as a AA gun, if you don't belong to its allegiance group.
Warehouses, houses, hangars and so on cannot fire back.

Think of Zero as neutral. They change allegiance based on what side of the line they are on. Not sure what happens when they become GSL. Possibly the same.

I'm working on the Type 58's a little more. I'm adding the external tanks and doing some LODs. I was going to skip the LODs but I now realise that the model has become more complex. Captain Kurt brought it up about the same time I was considering it. So I've decided to do them.

I'll try to wrap it all up over my three days off.

Well here is a pic. All LODs are finished. I've added some detail. Lets see if you can see it all.

Here is the original though still slightly modified version.

    Here is the new one.

I kept the Chassis and Turret as they looked fine. I made a new gun barrel, hull mg, 5 external fuel tanks (can't see them all in this pic), copula and antenna on the turret. Also not seen in these pics are the LODs.

I'm going to remove some of the external tanks for each different model.

This has definitely turned out to be a bigger project then I had planed.

Thank you Dave. I saw it earlier when I went to get the new scenery.

    WOW John!

What a nice T34/85!! It will look great on the Ost Front, too.

I wasn't aware it fought in Vietnam as well. It must have been a juicy target for the Spads!

The Chinese built the Type 58. It was in fact the License built T-34/85. The Chinese changed nothing from the Russian versions. It had the same strengths and weaknesses as its Russian counter part.

It was used during the Korean War by both the North Koreans and the Chinese.

China gave the North Vietnamese some Type 58. These were used during the Tet offensive and after the US pulled out from the South.

They were in other conflicts as well. I'm only covering those three.

I'm doing 9 version of the T-34/85. Three of them are meant as lead tanks. I'll mix and match some of the parts and move the turret to different positions to give them some life.

Here it is the whole time that I thought the rear two canisters were fuel tanks. Well they are not. They are BDSh smoke canisters. At least thats what I've been able to find out. So I had to change my approach with them.

Should I leave them on with the damage model or not? I'll have to think about it.

I also noticed that the one of the side tanks is in the way of the turret when turned 45 degrees. Ooops...

    John,
I think it will not be a big deal to leave them in the DP files

I'm actually refering to the model its self. No worries I sorted it out. I now have 6 different damage models. So much for making only "One" tank.

    FINALLY...

    I'm finished. I hope...

Twenty one models with eight different damage models. All are Multi_LOD. They have twelve different textures as well. I've added the external fuel tanks, plus the smoke canisters. They are mixed and matched, with some having both the fuel tanks and canisters, and some that just have the fuel tanks.

Captain Kurt is working on a new DP file to go with the T-34/85s. Once thats finished I can get them ready to be sent out.

So, I went from a simple little API conversion, to a full blown rebuild. It was fun and now I'm ready to wrap it up.

I have them ready for testing if anyone wants to set them up for a strafing run.

I'm tired just imaging all the work done Blood Hawk. Thanks man...

I think you should go get yourself a left-over turkey sandwich with mayo, some stuffing, and that last piece of pie. Eat until sleep sets in.

Allen has done a great conversion of the HU-16B Albatross,

I am working on the CIA Air America sceneries for it, here is his test version

    From the thread:
I'm attaching a test version of the Hu-16B. Test verion dosen't have gauges, wake or drop tanks. Since I don't know what you all are going to do with it best to give you a test version that can be flown and used. If there are any probs let me know so I can fix them!
