Some pretty lousy headwinds till the last little bit, for most of the flight. Now to send a message to the General that we are safe here and refueling.

Going to call it a night here. After some RL internet issues. Sent another message to the General, "package is safe". A couple of snaps from the leg.

Clear weather, but a lousy 20kt headwind to buck all the way.
The General's package is safe. Wonder what it is.

We're camped out at Gusap for the night. We'll have the BBQ ready when you get here. Still have some of that water buffalo we shared with that B-29 crew at the Haystack. I'm sure it's still good. Co-pilot's done with the head hunter book too...

Clear weather, starting with a good headwind for most of the flight. Then quartering.
Have to make my daily report to the General. Package is safe. Aircraft is undamaged. Getting a good nights sleep for tomorrow. Wont mention the BBQ.

The book is interesting. Published in 1942, the title is a play on words. In the late 1930s the author, a very young Caroline Mytinger, and friend, set out for the Solomon Islands to do anthropology work with the people there. They had almost no money, basically "hitch hiked" from California to the South Pacific. Mytinger spent a lot of time painting and illustrating the people she met there, usually head shots, hence the title... For me the book had an added dimension of interest because of what was about to happen there in a few short years...

I think I remember reading something about this book, or one like it. Long time ago.

Also, hear a rumor of a soon to be released aircraft. Said to be a very fast P51. H model I believe. Of course not eligible for this race, but perhaps some thing in the future. http://a2asimulations.com/forum/view...p?f=23&t=49147

All fuel up, ready to go. The General had little to say in his message, which was pretty garbled. Something like "it better", "your butt". That's all I could make out.
    GSP to JCB.

Uneventful flight to Rabaul. Clear weather. Not a whisper from the General. Must be up to something.
