As far as a payware F4F Wildcat, is the Justflight offering the only option available?
As far as a payware F4F Wildcat, is the Justflight offering the only option available?
Yes it is!
You also have a freeware FM-2 available at Avsim if you want...
The JF/AH Wildcat/Martlet is one of my favourites. For €12 it's pretty good value.
Rats - why won't anything work properly first time?
Yes the payware Wildcat is pretty nice, I bought it not so long ago and I fly it from time to time.
Graphically, it's beginning to show its age but it still looks quite nice. There are some alternative textures for the virtual cockpit which make the textures look much more realistic and worn out, but I don't remember who made it :/
Rick kindly allowed us to host his weathered VC textures - http://www.justflight.com/support/wi...artlet/1160d42

Ah yes, I didn't remember they were available directly from JF.
Thanks a lot for the link
Kevin Miller was working on one last year, but there's been no more progress reports.

Hi,
Do you know any repaints for the free FM2 ? It flies very well and landing on WWII carriers is really wonderfull, amazing and much better then the JF (i also own this one).
The best wildcat would be the FM2 with the JF CV !

Repainting since FS5..
Deano (Vertigo Studios) announced working on a Wildcat many moons ago. Don't know if it's still on the roster though.
Cheers,

This still isn't a half bad model. What lets it down more than anything are the default paints which have 'light reflected' areas as well as shading painted on. Throw some of the repaints listed here on and she's good to go.. or fly with the defaults after dusk

'New' worn cockpit textures.
Re the FM-2 mentioned above, is it a proper tall fin and rudder FM-2 or just an F4F-4 repaint???

Yes, the freeware FM-2 is meant to portray what it claims to be - it has the taller tail and the different engine/cowl section that easily define the type from the Grumman-built F4F's.
The freeware FM-2, which is by Phil Crowther, is available at Avsim, filename: escort_carrier_group.zip with the update: fm2_update.zip
A very nice model!
There is also a repaint for it, by Mike Barnes, of a Martlet Mk.V (Royal Navy FM-2), at Flightsim.com, filename: wildcatv_rn.zip
Here are a couple of pics of the FM-2. It's not bad, and has an animated pilot (feet and hands in the VC, also head in external view) though the VC is otherwise a bit sparse compared with the JF. The mainwheels don't quite touch the ground when at rest. Maybe someone has a fix for this. Personally I prefer the JF one, but it's just that. preference, as I prefer the earlier classic Wildcat. The filename is escort_carrier_group and it includes a Casablanca class carrier and Fletcher class destroyer, for use with AiCarriers

Sorry to bring up this old thread! But where can I find the weathered VC textures? The link to JF is a dead end.
