Sounds very good Milton. Most repainters will be happy with as few as possible changes after the model has become "paintable". With all small differences, between all version you intend to create, it might already become quite complicated to sort out the common things......

Thanks for adding again such an interesting thread to follow on our dear forum!

My guess would be it was a form of a 'tail skid' - being 'hidden' from the belly along with not being very big, I don't think it would help much in the 'direction stability' arena...
I'm pretty sure it was a tail bumper.

Inside that aerodynamic fairing below the tail is a tail skid/bumper.

Tail Bumper is the only thing I see in the docs but whatever works.

Looking great Milton! While I'm waiting on the Havoc, I've been rediscovering the Grizzly in FSX and doing some reworking of it for that sim along with looking at some new paint scheme possibilities.

As for the tail bumper, all I'll say is if it had a tail wheel back there, it wouldn't need that bumper. Ok, I'll grab me hat....

Don't worry, I get to experience the map changing headaches so you don't have to.

Limited time on this project the last 2 days but I did get the window frame corners rounded, the gun pod template cut out for reference, and the heavy metal pilot protection added.

Likely slow progress over the next week as we enjoy the holiday season.

EDIT: I realized recently that my 1024 pics are resized to 800 when uploaded and therefore the pics are fuzzy/not clear.

    So, try this:

For a "nose dragger", I do like the A-20. Though, if I'd have been Douglas, I'd have went with larger engines. A pair of R-2800s would have sufficed.

    Willy,

The Douglas A-20 originally had Twin Wasps and did not upgrade to the R-2600 until the A-20 main production or the DB-7A / Havoc II variant. Most of the flight analysis on the R-2600 model indicate that the A-20 had an excess of power...particularly the British and the Russians, which is why, in their words, the aircraft was fast and agile.

For 1941, a light bomber with a top speed of between 335-350mph was outstanding, better than all three main German types, as well as a Beaufighter, Blenheim, Maryland, Baltimore, Mitchell, and Marauder. Even later in the war, it was darn good, almost as fast as an Invader, which did have R-2800s.

It could maintain altitude in 65 degree turns, and the British also love it, saying "it was without vices, was easy to takeoff and land, and was extremely pleasant to fly and maneuver." It was by all definitions a "pilot's airplane," and it was loved for its ability to be tossed around like a fighter.

    An A-26 maybe.

I have completed the exterior mapping for textures and now testing for anomalies. There are a few needing correction. All miscellaneous small items mapped and textured and will be ready to move inside for the VC development.

Great to see SOH.com back online. :-) Thanks Ickie and Dave.

Superb progress on this one, Milton! I really enjoy watching the progress you've made when you build these gems. Glad to have SOH back as well, so I can see these things...

The 737-400 had a similar tail bumper fairing, though part of the crush can did extend slightly beyond the fairing to tell if an impact had been made and how bad.

from the pilots point of view, nice to be able to see well from both sides of the cockpit.

She's ready for artistic improvement; done the best I can. Off to the paint shop with her.

Working mostly on the A-20G now. GLH has been doing a lot of FM data gathering and organization so we are also working on the flight model.

Will try to get a decent package to the paint shop Thursday if I find nothing else to clean up.

I received "The Douglas A-20 Havoc" by William Wolf from Santa. If you need any info let me know and I'll see if it's in the book, as it's quite a tome. I won't be able to scan anything until I return from vacation.
