    Douglas A20 Havoc

    Hallo Friends,
I tried a bit to paint this fine bird. It is a simple and rare paint sheme and represents a DB-7 from GB II/32 at Cazaux in may 1940

    The boston tea party

    Great paint Nick!

Happy to see the the Brits splashing out so to speak. Have been perusing the colours carried during WWII by this remarkable work-horse of a light/medium bomber/attack/night fighter a/c. The variety seems endless.

Milton has produced another benchmark model which will go on giving and giving in terms of flt sim enjoyment for all.

Thanks to all involved. Wish I could contribute, but could never quite move on from the 'stick-men' phase of artistic development. But, as they say: 'I do not know what I want, but I do know what I do not want.'

Wow! That's looking great Nick; thank you for sharing this one.

Once we get the project to beta, I intend to do an FSX native conversion; paint kit will be the same.

Very nice Pappy; do you know if there is there a story behind the light color?

Steve, I forgot to mention that the C nose plexi is paintable so you may be able to give the look of some of the earlier stepped glass models.

    Douglas A20 Havoc, french repaint

    Hallo friends,

this yellow french paint was wondering me also - I searched all over the net but did not find a mention of it anywhere.
I saw it as a profile on the wings palette site.
Perhaps our friends living in france can find out something about it ?
Another question I did not find an answer in the net ; the luftwaffe captured a lot of allied airplanes - did they ever got a A-20 (or DB-7) ?
No no I will not harm you with a Luftwaffe repaint ! it is just as it interests me for the history.
    Yours
    Papi

    Model updates for the painters:

These 3 models had a missing poly mapped in the upper right of the windscreen outer surface. Now corrected with these 3 model folder replacements.

This is pure guesswork, and I'll be interested to see if my guess is correct.

It looks like the plane is finished (or unfinished) in zinc chromate primer, as if delivery was so urgent that there was no time to run it through the paint shop except for the required national markings.

    Steve,

Here is a Russian model variant of the C without the blisters.

This model will be included in the full package.

Wellis will be updating the paint kit to accommodate the differences.

    Still WIP

Still looking for bits that need paint like the gun port front left and the roof top aerials, and lining up the camo, but the pilot is in the RAF now.
Even with the limitations of the FS9 model in FSX it's still a great model. Thanks Mr Shupe and all concerned.

Hi Nick; great looking work there Sir

The gun port plates (that show when those guns are not loaded/activated) are on the bottom right of the fuselage texture. See attached.
One plate shown covers both plates so that may be tricky on a camo. We may have to change that to do them individually.

The antennas are mapped generally to areas of the strut2.bmp and cannot be changed.

Nice work indeed! On another note, should have a new fuselage paint template for Milton's new Russian model here in a bit.

NickB, just a heads-up; we are working on separating the nose gun cover plate maps so you can paint them as they should be for each side. Give us a couple days to finish the mapping/testing and update the paint kits (maybe a few extra days here but I can provide the updated templates to show location).

    Cheers Milton.
I already have the Aeroflot 1952 Scheme under way in the paint shack. Here's a few of the other schemes I have been playing with for the C model.
I will post a screen shot of the Aeroflot scheme later today.

As a back up and in case hunting season is upon me, I have a few litres of coke in the fridge so no worries.

    Steve,

Sorry, I was thinking of the P-70A1 that has the paint-able noseplexiglas. The C model is not paint-able.

Steve, you could use the P-70A1 ("C" based model) for those early variants I suppose to get access to the paint-able plexi.

That sounds like a good old Baldrick style cunning plan. I'll have a look see sometime soon.

For those that are interested, an update to the A20C model paint kit has just been uploaded to the library. The update includes two files: one for the original C model incorporating mapping changes to the cheek gun covers and one that incorporates these changes as well as panel line, rivet and access panel changes appropriate to Milton's new Russian model.

note: the non-Russian version is also intended for use with the P-70A1.

BTW, Steveb - fantastic paints you have going there sir!
