Thanks Mike. Something about the QFs just look so cool to me, especially the Navy ones.

Any chance of a NAWS China Lake Sabre? I was assigned to NAWS-0176 China Lake, Naval Reserve augment unit, in the early 90's. While on a two week ordnance training det they had launched a QF-86 for a live fire exercise using AIM-9's. This was also the last QF-86 on the base, once this one was gone they would be using just Phantoms from then on. Anyways, the drone pilot took it up, an F/A-18 was sent up with the Sidewinders and if I recall 500 rounds in the gun. The drone pilot decided that since this was the last flight he would fly it VERY aggressively to the point he defeated the missiles, I can't remember if it was VX-5 or the stations Hornet that went up but the pilot was not happy. As I said, the 86 defeated the missiles and range control was not going to be happy until there was a dead Sabre so the 18 was cleared hot for guns. This would have worked IF the gun had been loaded with HE or HEAP, what was loaded were training rounds AKA Blue Death as the gun's ammo was for ballast only. Once again the drone pilot made the Hornet driver miserable and while he got some rounds in the Sabre's a** no fatal hits were scored. What I was told when everything had been expended was the base CO made the remark, "F it, bring it back, patch it and paint it then stick it on a pole. Somewhere on NAWS China Lake is a retired QF-86 with scab patches on it's aft fuselage, basking in the sun, happily knowing that it survived the wrath of a Hornet.

Thanks very much guys! I'm really enjoying the MZ F-86, both flying and painting.

I know my recent repaints seem like old news to most of you guys but since I'm so late to the party im just discovering stuff you guys have had for a while. I'm acquiring these subjects based on my prioritized list of "gotta haves".

skyhawka4m and strikehawk, I'd give that NWS bird a go but so far haven't been able to find any good detail photos of it, specially the tail art.

Re the PMTC QF, I wasn't able to get much done this weekend due to intervening RL Hopefully this week.
