    P3D and weather

    Hi folks,

ever since P3D came out I tried all kinds of products that generate athmospheric conditions in connection with real world data sources. I tried REX, Opus, and several others, also freeware products.

I finally settled on FS Global Real Weather now (p3dv2.4). After a few days of comparing and testing I really must say that it works extremely well and is absolutely easy to use (no bloated functions). Fire up and forget.

I've been flying the CBI (hump) scenario a lot lately and the weather conditions over the himalayan mountain ridges are probably the most complex you can have. FSGRW does a beautiful job there. Multiple layers, fog at the bottom and different cloud types all the way to the top, harsh wind conditions and turbulences and so on. Also the smooth and accurate changes when you leave the mountain ranges and enter the steamy jungle valleys of Burma for example, which is a totally different climate.
One big plus, if I understood right, is that it doesn't only work with METAR data sources (like FSX-Jeppesen) but also with data that is gathered by other met stations at a much more precise and denser level. All the data gathering and interpolation is not done by the client. It just serves as interface between the external server (where the data auquisition and calculations are done) and P3D. The FGRW client just receives the required preprocessed dataset and passes it to the sim. So it hardly uses any system resources. A nice and user friendly concept, I think.

So for all those who are on the search for a "real weather" engine for P3D, check out the demo! http://www.fly2pilots.com/

    Cheers,

I agree with you Mark - after 'checking' out several other programs, I bought FSGRW during this past summer and am very impressed with it..

That does indeed sound great Mark. I must say though that I have similar very good experience from ASN. I have been flying in my area for the past week, including a real flight last Sunday, and I compared with P3D and ASN and the weather changes have been very accurately depicted with very smooth changes between the areas.

I must admit that real weather is a very important part of my simming experience, and the atmosphere as depicted in P3D is amazing. the inly thing left is to address these annoying rotating clouds.

They are fixed!! Here's the link at Prepar3d.com. http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/topi...issues-in-2-4/ The cloud colors are also fixed and are just beautiful especially at dawn & dusk.

I can confirm this. With LMs fix the cloud spinning issue is gone on my system, too. I must say that this never really bothered me though. Mileages may vary.
