Heading out well before dawn, to give myself a chance at two daytime arrivals today. VIAL to WMKA now, but may try to reach WSSL by tonight.

55 minutes in, and the PC suddenly locked up completely. Nothing responding, so the only way out was the reset switch.
Not sure if that's a "bail out", or whether it counts as something else. Anyway, leg aborted, and I'll need to go back to WMKA.
Here's the Duenna record for an uneventful first half of the leg:

Sorry that you had a PC issue. No need to bother Miss Nellie. A simple refly from WMKA without penalty is in order.
Thanks.
Launching again now, to WSSL.
edit: and aborting again - same PC lockup, after just 14 minutes. I'll need to get this fixed before I carry on. Time for some system maintenance.
edit: OK, background processes reduced some more, and now I'm only at 25% memory and 30-50% CPU with FSX flying in clouds. CPU temps are OK at 45/55C. and the CPU fan comes on faster if they go higher. Fingers crossed...
Launching again, 1230z in the real world, to WSSL.

Thanks!
2h 45m - so far so good. Crossing the tip of Indonesia's main land mass, and heading out over the Java Sea.
5h 35m - back over land, and crossing the East Nusa Tenggara island. Nice flying weather today, but also a slight headwind.
My route, if I'm on track, should take me right past Ebulobo, an impressive looking (and perfectly conical) volcano. In fact, according to wikipedia, it's a stratovolcano.
6h 20m - land sighted, and the Kupang El Tari NDB has come into range, straight ahead. About 20 minutes to run.

In theory, this should be one of the simplest hops, with just a two hour trip across the sea. However, I remember that in the 2009 L-M race I arrived in a thunderstorm, and managed to break the gear and crash on landing. Again, fingers crossed...
Departing WATT for YPDN.

Welcome to Darwin. Drinks are on me for the time being.
Penultimate leg, to Charleville. Not a great deal to see on this leg, so I'm setting off in the night for a daylight arrival, and giving myself enough daylight left for possibly flying on to Melbourne.
Departing now, for YBCV.

3h 30mins - overhead Mount Isa, a city in the middle of the outback. Over half way to Charleville...
5h 30 mins - the Charleville NDB has popped up. About 70nm to run.

Arrrggghhh! Another complete PC lockup.
5h 40mins into a 5h 50mins flight. I was almost within sight of Charleville.

Ouch I know the feeling Martin!
Try this: Go into FSUIPC Options and Settings/Miscellaneous and check the box "Keep FS sync'd to real time"
Each time I had that happen to me the error failure message log pointed to the weather.DLL
My theory is that sometimes the FS clock and the computer clocks, over a long period of time, get ofset enouigh that when you're in a particular "local weather zone" and Jeppesen updates does or doesn't detect that you're actually the same zone that the computer crashs and loads into your default flight. I've noticed others in various message boards complaining about lockups after around five to six hours of flight.
I'm no guru, just saying that was the last thing I changed that seemed to make the difference.
I hope this helps.
Fred
Hooray! This time my PC managed a 5:59 flight. Down safely at Charleville, YBCV.
