What was it before it was Switzerland?

Thank you all for the wishes.

Many "Countries" (or better ducats or counties) in an unique empire, named SRI (Sacro Romano Impero -> Holy Roman Empire)
and the Habsburg dynasty, the ruling family of the Austrian "Kingdom".
But, in 1291, four delegates from the four cantons (Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden [today Unterwalden does not more exist, there are teo cantons named Obwalden and Nidwalden]) swored, and created so a new Nation. After Many invasions in 1848, the world learned to know the Swiss Modern Nation. From that year, our Nation is like how we are today (at the first times we don't had an army and the cantons were a little bit other)
