Creating and placing effects at specific location

I'd like to create non-lethal smoky SAMs for use with the freeware NAS Fallon ranges and on the Saylor Creek range in Idaho. In a VA I fly with, we will simulate this environment. We do have TacPack, but it "kills" you unless you kill it first. I'd like to have the smoky launch toward us to dodge.

So how does one go about creating such an effect and how to compile it into a usable and placeable effect?

    Thanks in advance!

There are directions in the SDK regarding placement (or were in the FS9 SDK) and a simple place to start with the effect itself would be to study the fireworks.fx.

Of course you'll have to learn how to do more smoke/less flash but that's part of the fun of FS.

Placing the effect can be done with the SDK tools, SBuilderX or a similar placement tool.
The effect itself could be built out of my small flak fire effect fom the Solomon scenario. The emitters and the particle sections must be altered so it fires only once and a smoketrail must be added. Not easy stuff, SDK reading is important. To try the effect you can use the FXeditor from Arno Gerretsen, that's what I use to build them.

Thanks to both of you for answering. Looks like I'll have to do a lot more reading.
