I have a question about the posting procedures. Do posts have to be confirmed by a monitor before we, either as a team or a solo, can post again and/or take off?

Checked with Miss Nellie who seemed in a surprisingly cheerful mood. No pencil tapping or eyes rolled. Must be early.

No need for an outside confirmation.

For a multi-member team, Pilot A lands and posts "The baton is free." Someone (either Pilot A or Pilot B) checks and confirms that the post is up. Then Pilot B posts "I have the baton." And then he departs.

The trick is to be sure that Pilot A has his post up before Pilot B posts that he has the baton. Because TeamSpeak is likely to be crowded, the safer thing might be for Pilot B, on his own, to confirm Pilot A's post before he makes his own post. It is the team's responsibility to get the sequence right, even if that means waiting a few seconds for the SOH forum to come up.

For a solo entry, all is straightforward. The pilot posts the arrival, watches it come up, and then posts his departure.

Note that the sequence of the posts will be obvious post facto when one looks at the forum thread. (Declaring arrival and departure via forum is a bit clumsy when it would be quicker to use TeamSpeak. The advantage of the forum method is that it leaves an evidentiary trail to assure everyone of proper sequencing.)

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for clearing up the posting procedure, so it's up to us to make sure our posts go up in the proper order.

Was just talking with a buddy who was thinking of participating and he had a good question. Do we need to designate our targeted arrival airport in our posts? Everyone knows we are going to be landing at KCLE and KFRG, but what about any in between?

I'm thinking that we only need to be concerned about posting that we have the baton in order to advance, because the landing post will tell everyone where the baton is free, correct?

There's nothing in the rules stating that you have to post in advance where you'll be landing at. Although I would do so for KCLE and Kxxx. Between KLGB and KCLE though.....

(Personally, I'm following my usual strategy. Get lost and follow my nose)

    Eamonn, good question.

    Flying direct KLGB-KCLE is fine.

The 2,000-pounds-per-engine fuel restriction, coupled with uncertain winds aloft, provides an interesting speed/efficiency tradeoff for long distance racing.

    Scenery

    Hey all,

Hope noone else is working on this... I've been working on some scenery for the finish for both FS9/X today. It has -

    - the barbeque pit w/ new smoke
    - chow tents w/picnic tables
    - plenty of coolers :salute:
    - a concert/dancing/showcase pavillion tent
    - an official scoring trailer/mini-tower
    - welcome signage
    - static fuel trucks
    - RVs parked on the tarmac for the race team/support/pilots for the evening.. No driving after the party
    - Bleachers with spectators keeping an eye on the finish line

Most of the stuff is from past SOH BBQs w/ some added stock objects. Going to add some fire trucks and make some custom finish pylons with checkerboard paint and sponsorship logos..

The package will be self contained - no libraries needed.

    KFRG scenery is up.

It isn't much - just adds some ambience to Farmingdale/Republic for the finish & a place to seer some cow.

    Hope y'all like.

That sign looks like a typical Flight 19 landing to me!

I used the libraries from the scenery Team SOH made for the RTW Cookout at TQPF (Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport) circa RTW '11 :salute:

One of the fellows at the FBO came up with an interesting question.

What if I make a mistake in my fuel management and end up putting down (Forced Landing) in a remote field. I safely land and the plane can take off again but I need gas. I did not crash and the Duenna will report the Latitude/Longitude of my landing.

So we dutifully knocked on the glass door through which one dreads to pass. Posed the question to Miss Nellie and got a frown. "Can't these young pilots handle fuel management? These aircraft have gauges, you know."

Then she sighed and said, "One supposes that racing pilots are just different. Yes, we shall make a provision for this circumstance."

See the NOTAMS for the rule.

Rumours abound that Mr. Arthur Godfrey will be onsite this weekend, reportedly to do a live broadcast. While this has not been confirmed, a brand new Navion (not known to be his) was seen parked near the Race Central scoring facility...

    Hahahaha, thanks MM.

with the 2000lbs fuel restriction, it means flying till your out of gas, and pray for a nearby airfield.

Question(s) regarding Wartime Emergency Power; some aircraft have it, some don't. Some model it realistically (damage to engines after prolonged use), some less so (unlimited usage). Will WEP be permitted during the race, and if so, what restrictions or provisions will there be for it's usage? (For example, a plane with unlimited use might be restricted to five minutes of it per flight, while one with realistic modeling might be allowed to overhaul the engines/reload the aircraft so they have a full allotment of WEP for each flight.)

*Ducks behind a desk as he awaits Miss Nellie's response.*

Hey RedGreen, I have the A2A P51-D with accu sim and I was able to flat out run it at 71" manifold pressure for over an hour with no engine damage so not sure how accurate the engine damage is for it.
