And do you see the similarities? The scaled-up version from the Fury (P.V.3) was more or less the bi-plane version of the Hurricane...........

    Cheers,

The two ARE very close. Easy to see one came from the other. Never really looked at it that close before. Thanks Huub......

    Very NICE!
Do not fear the enemy, for they can take only your life. Fear the media far more, for they will destroy your honour.

The main gun to the rear is a 105mm howitzer. Amazing system.

Cheers Sean, I see now. Bloody hell, a 105mm!! No wonder it has a huge counter weight/flash supressor on it...must also have a huge recoil system!! gulp!

I may be wrong, but I believe that's a 105 "recoil-less" rifle. As long as the crew stay out of the back-blast area they're golden, and it doesn't have a very great effect on the plane.
I've read stories out of Viet-Nam, one in particular was where a Marine Unit with a FO attached was pinned by a sniper based on the third floor of a building, during the Battle of Hue. They got a Specter on station, and the pilot asked what window the sniper was in. The FO described it for them, and in a few seconds a 105 round went in the designated window. Incredible accuracy indeed!
Oh, needless to say, that was the end of the sniper. Totally destroyed the room he was in, left the rest of the building fairly well untouched. Saved a lot of troops, not to mention the civvies hiding in the building.

The Gatling guns, supposedly, can put a 20MM round into every square foot of a football field. Pretty handy against enemy concentrations! They look, at night, like there is a red rope connecting the plane to the ground. Sounds like a dragon exhaling it breath weapon at the enemy. Makes the ground troops VERY happy to have one around.
Amazingly long loiter time too. Gives the FOs a great weapon to utilize throughout a long night fight.

That's a beautiful plane. Thanks for the post
Most nowadays are painted matte black, I thought Gives them a nice visual cammoflage during night time ops. Incredible to see the Gatlings open up out of a black hole in the sky

    Have fun, all!

The main gun on the the AC-130E,H,U models was the M102 105mm Howitzer: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M102_howitzer
The H and U models also had the 40mm Bofars cannon.
The early H models had twin 20 mm Vulcan cannons.
the later H models and the U model replaced the twin vulcans with a single 25MM Equalizer auto cannon.
Im afraid Im not really current on the W and J versions but they add griffin missiles/Viper strike (Stupid name) glide bombs in a rear ramp launcher and agm-114 hellfire missiles on a forward firing wing tip launcher. Some of them have lost the 105 but they do have the 30mm bushmaster autocannon.

I think I got the variants right

    Ha ha ha...I'm crying...

''Some of them have lost the 105 but they do have the 30mm bushmaster autocannon''...sounds like a someone's lacking in the porn department....

I bet they also have a crapper/dunny/head/john that empties directly to the outside world.....laying down supressive fire.....

Not FS9 but it shows off the hardware..........

    "Ultimate End" indeed.
FTR, I would not be onboard any aircraft attempting to fire a 105mm 'Carl Gustaf' RR laterally.
My first training op fresh out of Duntroon was a live fire exercise using our Land Rover mounted 'Reckless Rifles'..........back blast was 'considerable'!

Early H model, twin 20mm upfront, bofors 40mm cannon, 105mm....boom stick aft. The recoil of the 105 is pretty well damped out by the brake system however it still kicks the aircraft to the right when firing.

Actually....they DO.... (or at least the C-130 in general does)...

Not a nice job fixing the pipework when it leaks, but used to get an extra 50p a day (woo) pay for doing it from RAF
