    Flying lessons with Manuele Villa

The AVIA FL.3 (also later known as the Lombardi FL.3) was an Italian two-seat cabin monoplane designed and built by Azionaria Vercellese Industrie Aeronautiche (AVIA) who were later taken over by Lombardi in 1947. The model is a real gem and absolute pleasure to fly (Its an elementary trainer so what can go wrong ). The model is one of the many remarkable models done by Manuele Villa, who flew this aircraft himself in 1972. The animations from pilot and instructor is something you really should see for yourself.

    Cheers,
    Huub

Why visit the neighbours? The A.V.I.A. L3 can be found in our library here as well
When my memory is still correct, the fix available at Avsim is not needed, as it is already included in the packages in the SOH library here.

Thanks Huub, still very much an apprentice painter.
It should really be black, but as we know, black doesn't seem to display very well in the sim on some graphics cards.

Yes, but an OBSERVANT apprentice painter already armed with knowledge!
    I'm impressed!

You're absolutely correct about use of black, Pete. What most people don't realize is that the same applies to white.
Nothing is worse than seeing pure black or white in sim. It LOOKS wrong because it IS wrong. Jet black tyres, prop blades...they're a dead giveaway evert time.

For the same reason, artists NEVER use straight black or white in their paintings. Neither exist in nature, and so when they are used 'straight', whether in realistic paintings or for our purpose; textures, they need to be 'knocked back' or toned down.

So Pete, if you wish to effectively create the illusion of black, use a very dark 'grey' using colour. This could be a very dark 'unsaturated' blue, for example. Take a look at some of the reg. markings included in the paintkit for an idea of values that work.

And Pete; never hesitate to ask, my friend.
Most men often say what they think!
An honest man usually means what he says!
A gentleman always says what he means!

    Pete,

For aircraft painted black I use the following RGB values: R66 G66 B67 for worn black and R45 G45 B45 for "newish" black.
    For fresh white I use R239 G231 B223, for dirty white I use something like R216 G204 B192.

Although I'm not sure, but it well could be that the shading in Nigel's paintkit is giving the blueish effect.

    Cheers,
    Huub

All black paint that is exposed to the sun for a period of time will actually "fade" to an oxidized dark blue. Well... maybe not on fabric but it certainly would on metal. I saw this happen to an old 1964 Buick that was all black. So your paint on the trusty ol' Avro could pass for once being a solid black, Pete.

    Favourite repaint?

Over the years I have done hundreds of repaints, in most case the last one is the best.....

But I must confess the repaints I did for the Restauravia Bloch MB152 are definitely among my favourites! A great model from an unusual aircraft.

    Cheers Pete.

Nice work on the Avro's mate. Life has been very busy the past few months and I have had very little time in the paint shop. I've got a few weeks spare at the mo so will be spending more time painting.

Nice to have you back Steve, BTW I don't recognize that little jet in your screenshot... L-39C?, L-159... Vit Storch's models? Just curious.
