    Iris A-7 Corsair Launch

    Tried to add the acceleration carrier launch feature to the Iris A-7 Corsair freeware but couldn't get it to work. I have added the feature to many aircraft so I believe it is within the Iris model. Added the rcbcb-30 to it and it works fine. Any body try it as well?

    Iris did do an A-7 - but it was for FS9.
    It will port to FSX, with the usual caveats.

    Personally, I believe that the model shows its age - and I'll stick with the RAZBAM offerings.

    Ahh, ok, but here its the corner for FSX so I thought about FSX version only.

    @uniform7.
    In my advice - use this Razbam version, pretty good machine :

    Before the wonderful Razbam SLUF, the only other alternatives were Kazouri Ito's creation, and the one from Iris. Abacus had one too.

    Razbam's Corsair II series, like everything Ron creates, is a work of art.

    But then I am a little biased, heh, heh.... NC

    GO SLUFs!!!

    The IRIS A-7 Corsair for FS9 was released under DSB Design's label prior to IRIS taking over many of the titles, so there is a slight bit of confusion.

    Go with the RAZBAM series.

    A-7 corsair

    Guys, Guys, I have the Razbam A7. My question was, has anyone tried to add the FSX acceleration aircraft carrier launch effect to the Iris A-7 Corsair? I couldn't get it to work on that particular aircraft for some reason. Have added it to several others just wondered why it wouldn't work with the Iris A-7

    The lack of a launch bar is the only thing that comes to mind. The rest are Acceleration functions, hold back/tension, launch assist, etc.

    But you said you added the effect, so I'd be curious as to all that included within the aircraft.cfg

    A7

    Actually, it has a launch bar, whether it's operational or just for looks I do not know. I do know on other aircraft that do work there is no launch bar and the Iris F14 you must activate it,s launch bar from inside the VC to initiate the FSX catapult feature.

    Exactly, the launch bar is just an animation, as you did with the other models the Accel entry has to be added to the aircraft.cfg. Is this the D.Garnier repackaged port-over? I've had to do tailhook adjustments before to get OK 3's.

    Yes, I added the tail hook and the launch bar entries the aircraft.cfg and no dice.

    uniform7,
    I looked at the DSB/Iris A-7 in Aircraft Container Manager and the contact points and reference point values are very strange. There is a water rudder (?) contact point about 12 ft forward of the nose, and the 0/0/0 reference point is even further forward. I don't know how you obtained the position numbers for the launch_assistance cfg entry but I was totally confused by the airplane's default positional entries.

    Iris A-7

    Thought something like that might be the issue but I am not that knowledgeable about that area. I have noticed on some aircraft that you need to move the aircraft back a little bit for the launch to arm. Tried a few things with the Iris A-7 but no luck. I'm one that loves the mystery though.

    I'll take a closer look at it later on this evening and see if I can adjust a few things.

    The launch bar doesn't make any difference - I've added the launch assist to Wildcats and Swordfish as well as jets, and it works fine.
    Rats - why won't anything work properly first time?

    my iris numbers from cfg

    here are my adjusted numbers for the IRIS A-7 ...

    [TailHook]
    tailhook_length = 4.05
    tailhook_position = -17.00, 0.00, -1.3
    cable_force_adjust = 0.70

    [launch_assistance]
    launch_bar_pivot=15.00, 0.00, -6.60 // 1 ft above nlg
    launch_bar_lug=16.00, 0.00, -7.60 // 1 ft fwd of nlg

    and my contact points ...

    point.0 = 1, 15.00, 0.00, -7.60, 6600.00, 0, 0.85, 60.00, 0.25, 3.99, 0.73, 4.50, 4.50, 0, 0, 0 //Nose gear
    point.1 = 1, -2.45,-6.00, -6.75, 6600.00, 1, 1.55, 0.00, 0.42, 2.12, 0.55, 9.50, 9.50, 2, 0, 0 //Left MLG
    point.2 = 1, -2.45, 6.00, -6.75, 6600.00, 2, 1.55, 0.00, 0.42, 2.12, 0.55, 9.50, 9.50, 3, 0, 0 //Right MLG
    static_pitch = 3.60
    static_cg_height = 6.60
    gear_system_type = 1

    they seem to work fine for me

    uniform7,
    If you're still interested in using the Iris (DSB) A-7 in FSX this launch_assistance entry worked fine for me the other night on the Team SDB USS Enterprise:

    [launch_assistance]
    launch_bar_pivot = -19.0931, 0.0, -4.9135
    launch_bar_lug = -16.1051, 0.0, -7.5809

    If you have a good tailhook entry that works for you I'd like to have it. I had to trap aboard in a different plane and switch to the A-7 just to check out the launch_assistance entry. Anything I've tried either doesn't work, or if I trap the plane goes berserk and off the deck.
