    HMCS Magnificent and air group

With Lazarus's recent release of all the old CFS2 ww2 and early post war period ships it has been possible to make some early Canadian naval aviation come to life as well; here is the HMCS Magnificent with escort of the light cruiser "HMCS Uganda/HMCS Quebec and a C-class destroyer. Sea Fury from VF870 and Avenger AS.3 from VS880. The carrier and aircraft are painted by me.

Do anybody here on the forum have any knowledge about the deck decals on magnificent? Im specially thinking about the rear edge lines which i have painted yellow. A lot of bw pictures, but few with color. From what i can see it should be yellow, difficult to judge though.

Lazarus; the catapult will only work when the carrier is not moving, when moving it jumps out of the holdback. Any cure for this? I have used the hmas sydney model for hmcs magnificent.

The shearwater museum foundation may have some in their photo gallery I think the magnificent west coast file has some http://www.samfoundation.ca/index.php/photo-gallery if you are still having problems I may have a copy of the warrior with a color photo at home

Thanks, they actually had several colour pictures showing the deck. Looks like I was on target with yellow edge lines.

Great work as always Jens-Ole! Is that the latest texture set for the Magnificent or a newer one. I particularly like the attention to the boats and the cleaness od the deck textures.

    Many thanks

Thanks! It is an all new deck texture in hi res. HMCS Quebec has also got an overhaul with darker color and the pennant number 31. I'm thinking about putting it all together and release it as an HMCS Magnificent with escort package. What do you Canadians think about using Quebec and a C-class destroyer as escort group? At least in my mind it should fit as I have seen pictures with both ships together with Maggie.

    Hello!

Sorry for the delay, it has been a busy week with work and Maggie has been out for some beta testing, the result from the later was encouraging and I belive the only big change will be to make the escort ships a bit farther out.

As you can see from the latest screens so have i made some minor changes to the sea fury to make it more accurate as well; the exhaust separation plate was not painted brownish ( not one my or the original flying stations textures), now painted. I have also moved the separation line for the dark sea grey about "10" cm highter on the fuselage to match the real scheme. It seems to be a bit low on the original textures as well.
Just some minor work on the avenger to be done.

    What do you Canadians think?

It looks geat! Will you also do a package with the "Bonnie"?

  17. #17
Bonnie is currently available her at the SOH with Lazarus's limited release and my updated textures if you take a look in the original Majestic class thread.

I'll quite possibly release some of the escort repaints and formation file for aicarrier+ all the repaints

Apologies to all for digging up this thread from the deepest, darkest past!

    Jens-Ole,
I'm just wondering if any of these RCN aircraft/ship repaints were ever uploaded somewhere ? They're all beautiful, and I'd love to add them to my stable. My repainting skills are somewhat, well... horrible! Trust me, I've tried... I've also noticed another ancient thread where you had a RCN repaint of a Sea Thing that appeared simply stunning... I'm sure there's others who frequent the site who'd love to relive the "Glory Days" of RCN carrier aviation

Again, apologies for digging this up, but I couldn't resist asking!

    Mark
