WTH was a cashew doing in my keyboard?

Yesterday, my left shift key stopped working....and I am unable to get my right pinky to do any typing at all...laziest finger I have by far. So, a few minutes ago, I grabbed my can of compressed air cleaner stuff and blew my keyboard out....WOW! What a mess.....I swear that a whole cashew was in my keyboard....along with a million gray hairs, a bunch of tater chip crumbs, some cookie crumbs, the better part of a ham sammie, and a midget named Larry Johnson....don't ask me, I have no idea what he was doing in there.

I built some attachments for one of the air blower guns on my air compressor. Just took a 1 ft length, a 3 ft. length and a curved length of 1/4 in. copper tubing along with the appropriate brass fittings to adapt to the gun. I can direct a nice thin stream of air at the pressure I set on the air regulator.

It works great for blowing out keyboards, computer desktops, items needing to be dried quickly, etc.

In the case of desktops, keep the pressure rather low so you just move out the dust from the case and not force it into any hard drives or CD/DVD drives. It helps to have a shop vac going on the receiving end. This really works great to blow out the crud from power supply boxes and COMPUTER FANS !! Wow, does it really clean a fan.

Only one suspect here, OBIO....Mr. Peanut. Easy to spot, wears a top hat, carries a cane, and wears a monocule.....and leaves a trail of salt whereever he goes.

It can be done quite safely IF you have a waterproof keyboard (very few are).

My wife's keyboard is a medical grade one and it can be washed in a dishwasher, in the shower or in a sink. We don't have a dishwasher so when it gets cruddy she just runs the shower head over it to flush it out. She then shakes the water out and blows a fan/hairdryer over it for a few minutes before plugging it back in.

I have been unlucky with keyboards, so never had to clean one, I think I'm in my 4th in about 6 years. Same with kettles and irons they don't seem to last long in this house before having to be replaced. Costco love us! :mixedsmi:

My mother always taught me never to waste food. I hope I can rely on you to do the same. There is someone, somewhere, who would be glad of it....if not you.

Just be careful to put a pencil or something else into the fan to prevent the blade from over spinning which will damage the fan and shorten it's life considerably.

I dropped a pizza slice on mine once. It landed face down and it was hot. Man, That was a mess. I just went down and bought another and did even try to clean it.

I've been using the same keyboard for over 10 years now. No telling what is under the keys. Some of them have the letters worn off now.

After a hot shower and a quick trip to the grocery store...I am going to open up my puter case and give it a good cleaning out....haven't done it since I moved out on my own....over 5 months now...and take my keyboard a part and give it a thorough cleaning out...the left shift key still doesn't work all the time...and now my space bar is a little wonkie.
