    a little help,scenery idea.

Hi All,i have a little "day dream" where i purchase the "Johnston Atol" from the US Government, clean up all the toxic mess ..( from what ive read about it real world,it must glow in the dark) we install desalination systems, solar and wind power systems as well as a generator, fuel tanks underground ( weve developed a new system to have them under the runway and they wont be effected by the ground water/saltwater)for aircraft, ships, vehicles, and for the housing needs.
    and so on..

id like to have this in my FSX.i saw the thread about eastern island/midway,and saw scenery 3..SbuilderX...ADEX...where can i find these different things?...i know there is google..but im asking here so maybe you who use them might tell me a little about each and how to use them?...i also see as im typing RD has posted about sketchup..havent read the thread yet..but i shall..i have that..

one more question...in those other programs..how do you start?...a photo of the island from google?....and this just hit me..would Johnston Atol be in FSX already?..and if so could i use AFcad to modify it?...or?..

Dave, I'm sure others will be by to expand, but for now:
    SBuilderX: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16434
    ADEX: http://www.airportdesigneditor.co.uk/ade_003.htm

I use SBuilderX for quite a bit (satellite imagery, water and ground poly's, excludes, flattens and so on). There is a fair amount of a learning curve with SBuilderX, however once you catch on to the basics, you'll be surprised at how easy it actually is. I use ADEX but in a limited sense, I only use it for adding fuel triggers, otherwise I use AFX for all my AFCAD work, and of course Sketchup, which is what I'm using to build the models.

Dave, I'm not a scenery person but I have played with it. If Johnston Atoll doesn't exist in FSX you can still build it like any other scenery and I'm sure some of the scenery developers can explain how it's done. I think you could make fictional land masses if you wanted to. Maybe someone can confirm this.

Correct, using SBuilderX, the image above imported into the desktop, use the poly tool to trace around the Island, set the island mass with landclass tiles, add either a preset shoreline or do a custom shoreline again using the poly tool and you're in business. . .sounds simple huh?. . .it will take a bit of learning, but it can be relatively easy to do.

Johnson Atol is in FSX and actually looks much better than it does in real life.

The size and shape of the island looks to be exact in FSX. There are some outer islands close to the Atol which might need to be added.

Lots of good possibilities for what you could do there.

There is photoscenery available of Johnson Atoll.
Maybe plant whatever custom scenery objects you wanted on top of it?
    Just a thought...
