More like the ground is higher in one install than in another.

We left Kandahar for the garden spot of Sirjan, Iran. Fun flight even if I did put on an impromptu airshow on approach by bouncing the wheels off the ground a couple of mile from the runway when I lost my speed awareness and demonstrated that a FJ-3 Fury won't fly at 95 kias, but it will take off again with the speed brake on. Good thing there wasn't anything there to hit other than the ground.....

Ok, I think I get it, sort of.
I don't want to hijack this nifty thread with this.

    Thanks.

First out of Kandahar and over the western edges of the Hindu Kush. And then through to Iran over the Dasht-e Lut (the "Emptiness Desert") or the Lut Desert. This is one of the world's driest places where the surface of the sand has been measured at temperatures as high as 159*F. (Easily believable from the air.) We passed over Gandom Beryan, a large plateau covered in dark lava. According to legend, the name (in Persian "Toasted Wheat") originates from an accident where a load of wheat was left in the desert and was scorched by the heat in a few days.

Great flight on into Tehran. We really pushed the jets getting there and I was keeping one eye on the exhaust temp and one hand near the fire extinguisher switch. Which fortunately is near the eject handle...

We left Iran, flew over Iraq and landed in Kuwait. We weren't over Iraq but for just a few minutes. I sure thought it was bigger than that....

We left Mosul and flew on to the Syrian coast. Other than running the main tanks dry and having to do an air start after switching on the drop tanks and then a plume of mystery smoke coming out the tail pipe, it was pretty uneventful.....

We left Syria and tested the Israeli air defenses by going fast and low down the Dead Sea valley. Fun flight although it was strange flying fast below sea level. Spending the night at the Red Sea resort of Eilat (LLET)

We left Cyprus and headed on to Istanbul. Nice flight, but we've got another job. So we're catching the redeye to the "Big Easy" and pick up some more planes...
