    Those Funky 50s Jets

We've decided to keep working our way west but in 50's jets. I picked a FJ-3 Fury (Section 8 F-86 repaint). I'll say one thing about the Section 8 F-86. This is what payware should be like and it's freeware.

Anyway, we left Bangkok and headed northish to Heho, Burma (VYHH). Nice flight and our old flying buddy von Wrecktoften showed up! Good times as usual. But now to figure out where to go to next....

Nice flight to Bangladesh, although it did get rather interesting when I realized that the fuel gauge was showing fuel in the drop tanks, but they weren't on the aircraft. Thought we were going to have to call in a KC-97 or something. A better preflight with paying attention to what's under the wings might be in order. First thing I did when we got landed and parked was to fill up!

    Hey there!

Just a few pictures of the F-86 that I have been flying. Hehe, we move right along in theses birds compared to speed of the low and slow flights we just finished. The sec.8 F-86 is a real pleasure to fly one of the best of the freewares.

Willy routed us deep into the Himalayas. Keeps one at attention in the cockpit.

We decided to go for some Chinese takeout. Nice flight to Xigaze. Although the hills did get rather largish.

Taco and I put the mountains behind us and flew on to Patna, India (VEPT). Nice flight that got real interesting when I had an engine fire while flying at full throttle and then a flameout while hitting the fire extinguisher. Somehow I got lucky and was able to restart the engine before much altitude was lost in the mountains. Note to self: pay more attention to the engine temps.

Sure thought Willy was going for a walk when he radioed that he had a fire and flame out. The bailout area sure didn't look to neat, like there was no bus service or even a McDonalds. Hehe, telephone, forget it! All in all a very nice flight, and the landings couldn't have been better! Looking forward for the next flight.

When flying over the Indian subcontinent, something that one must do is go by Agra and buzz the Taj Mahal. Mission accomplished.

Pics are a bit scrambled up....

    Howdy to my friends stateside.

Well, here we are flying around the country of India. Flying along at 26,000 ft and this here blue streak shot by me so fast I thought I was stuck at a stoplight, not really, welcome back MM. As for buzzing the Taj Mahal I was in so much fig I was darn lucky to see my wing tips, so no pictures. Did have a break in the fig in order to find the airport landed hard, and now need to replace the seals in the mains. But, anyway it was a very nice flight.

We flew on to VAAU. Nice flight once the weather cleared up a bit.

I'm not even going to try to either spell or pronounce the name of the place at vEVZ. But it was a pretty good flight and just for fun, Moses and I went for the short runway 9 there. Sure hope the local AutoZone has brake pads for the Fury because I sure fried 'em coming to a stop.

I was detained by local authority when the guys flew the leg to VOML so once I got loose, I took off after them. As there wasn't anyone to talk to, I tossed some Tom Petty in the 8-track and just cruised on. No sign of the guys, so I guess they're out painting the town red.

Formed up late with Willy for the flight into Mumbai. (Word is that Taco had too much curry and was grounded).

A tale of two weather patterns on arrival. Willy was reporting clear while I was white-knuckling heavy rain and 1/2 mile viz. Was happy when the runway popped into view soon after the photo was taken.

Started with Taco, who froze in midair in front of me when I tested my guns (hope I didn't accidentally shoot him down), then Moses caught up with me. Nice flight though apparently with both of us running the same weather program, it interpreted the data different for us. It was nice pretty weather for me.

    Heading into dangerous country soon...

Hope it doesn't do this on the next leg when we get to the mountains.

Had pretty nice weather for the flight into Chitral. Probably a good thing too as I'd have hated to have been trying to feel my way down the valley at jet speeds.

Nice flight to Kandahar although there was some concern during approach about dodging surface to air missles......

    landing gear

In post #20, it appears the Canadian sabre has a gear problem.

In post #21, the Canadian sabre is ok, but the British plane (702) has the problem.

    How does that happen?

    Thanks.

On the road to Kandahar: (a) the Canadair Sabre climbing out of Chitral with the majestic Tirich Mir in the background; and (b) turning over Afghanistan's part of the Hindu Kush.

Is that like a soft spot in the ground?
