    Help With DP File

    Hi all,

I'm trying to modify a dp file to add 1)Mauro's pilot, 2)drop tank, 3)drop tank rack, 4)a 500lb bomb, 5)bomb rack. I've added the gunstation entries to what I believe are the correct parameters and although the ordnance shows in the aircraft preview, they don't sow up when I'm actually flying. I'm using an air file from a similar plane that shows the drop tank.

This is what the dp looks like:

    [GUNSTATIONS]
    ; Port Guns
    gunstation.0=1,24,2,0.08,839,2,0.01,500,2,40,1d1*1 4,-2.16,-0.335,0.77,-1,0,0.3,0,0,0,0,1.6

    mount.4=wep_pylon_us_cl, 1, -1

Can anybody point out what I'm doing wrong?

    Thanks for your help,

    One Thing at a Time

    Willy:

I'm not an expert on .dp files and you will probably hear from someone qualified to help you.

However, my suggestion is that you do ONE THING AT A TIME. Get the pilot working first, then the drop tank, then the bomb, etc., etc.

    Just my $0.02.

When bombs show up in the aircraft preview but don't when flying is likely a model issue.

Try using MS MDL Converter Tool

    Hi Allen,

I totally forgot about that! Unfortunately, after using the converter, the mdl seems to be corrupted. Before converting, the mdl file is 1029kb, and after converting, it is only 52kb. When I try to select the plane in the free flight menu, I get a CTD. It's not a big deal, the model is pretty old, I just wanted to see if I could bring it up to (somewhat) current standards.

    Thanks for your help,

What aircraft/model is it? I'd like to see why it corrupted.

    Do change model!

    TW,

please allow me to ask you: why don't you make your life easier with the vaste production of beautiful P-40 "B" versions available, instead of tangling with Jurassic Era Kwagmire's P-40B? If I remember correctly, I even deleted it from my archives, due to the impossibility of reducing its collision bubble and other inaccettable mdl quirks for today's standards. Let alone a poor fps performance.

Here you can find Bruce Throson's multi-LOD P-40B/C models reworked by Bearcat241, with plenty of gorgoeus, rigorously historical repaints by SC and RobH, to which I applied my props and alternative payloads/droptank for both USAAF and RAF versions, with either US or British bomb models.

Besides, you can also find here:

    http://www.thefreeflightsite.com/BDPLanes.htm

fabolous BR2's P-40B models in AVG livery and BR2's P-40C in RAF Western Desert Sqdn.112 livery. The detail level and framerate speed of BR2's Warhawks is simply outstanding and I did addon packs for them as well!

    Cheers!

    Hi Kelti,

Actually, I have all the planes you mentioned and then some. I did a comparison study with the following results:

    AF Scrubb: a)collision bubble fixable
    b)animated parts:
    -canopy
    -cowl flaps
    -control surfaces
    -wheels roll
    c)vc - very good (non-functioning)
    d)FPS @ 3000ft = 27.0

    Bruno Duffort: a)collision bubble fixable
    b)animated parts:
    -canopy
    -cowl flaps
    -control surfaces
    -wheels roll
    c)vc - excellent
    d)FPS @ 3000ft = 52 - 55

    Bruce Thorson: a)collision bubble fixable
    b)animated parts:
    -canopy
    -cowl flaps
    -control surfaces
    -wheels turn
    c)vc - excellent (non-functioning)
    d)FPS @ 3000ft = 27

    Flight 1: a)collision bubble fixable
    b)animated parts:
    -control surfaces
    -wheels turn
    c)vc - good (non-functioning)
    d)FPS @ 3000ft = 50

Kwagmyre: a)collision bubble fixable (Yes, I was able to.)
    b)animated parts:
    -canopy (linked to flaps, however)
    -control surfaces
    c)vc - poor (non-functioning)
    d)FPS @ 3000ft = 58.8

    Lindsey Watt: a)collision bubble fixable
    b)animated parts:
    -canopy
    -cowl flaps
    -control surfaces
    -wheels turn
c)vc - excellent (some animated parts)
    d)FPS @ 3000ft = 18

My computer specs are: Compaq Presario C571NR Notebook
    Intel T2080 Processor 1.73GHz
    2GB RAM
    Win Vista Home Premium/SP2/ 32-bit

Unfortunately, until I'm able to get a newer computer, I'm rather stuck using older models as they get much better performance even though I must sacrifice in the area of animated parts among other things. This is also why I often see if older planes can "updated" or modified.

By the way, Bruno's plane is by far and away my favorite, not just in fps, but in appearance as well. Just wish there wasn't a restriction on repaints.

I tried looking at the model. I have no idea what is going on. I do know it was made using FSDS 98 so it may be too old to be fixed. I also can't port it into Model Converter X.

    Hi Allen,

That's ok, thanks for taking the time to look at it. I have a few others that will fill the need.

    Kind regards,

    Hi TW,

my pc is an over-7-year-old, "homegrown" desktop with an AMD Sempron 1.99 GHz processor, ASUS MoBo, 2Gb Ram, ATI Radeon 9200 Pro, 32-bit Win XP-Pro SP3. Isn't Vista a tad heavy on your system specs?

I get more or less the same fps you listed from those models, being Lindsay's the worst (I don't believe it's multi-LOD) and Bruno's the best. It was a while ago, but I remember getting fits out of Kwagmire's P-40B.

Back to the topic then: I looked carefully to your dp entries and I haven't noticed anything wrong, so far. I know it's silly to ask, but did you delete the *.cdp after editing the *.dp file? This simple detail drove me nuts in the past, I was replacing stock payloads in Fox4's F-86 Sabre when all of the HVAR's dropped like bombs instead of firing up like rockets! The culprit was only the old *.cdp that was conflicting and I wasted loads of time searching hell-knows-what fault CFS2 had developed! As an extra measure, I'd try deleting all of the*.dat files around and let CFS2 rebuild them.

I don't know what else to look for, because, if the no-show problem is related to the age of the model, it sounds bizarre, since I was able to hang CFS2 payloads under CFS1 planes with no problems in the past.

As to the repaint/mod restrictions to BR2's models, I don't think they apply anymore since BR2's website is long since gone, CFS2 is already a collector's item and all of BR2's planes were re-uploaded. In fact, when I uploaded last year an alternative prop pack with my usual works for their splendid P-51D, no one stepped forward saying I was an outlaw!

I wonder why someone doesn't try to repaint a BR2's plane, giving the usual credits due to them, and see what happens.

    Cheers!
